The test will be whether or not we throw Israel under the bus. With Obama at the helm, the Islamic world will have a free shot at Israel without US intervention.

Will Obama be tested with an international emergency of some kind once he takes office? Will it be a testing like that of a young JFK with the Cuban missile crisis that almost led to nuclear war? Will we have a bay of Pigs like we did with the young JFK?
Predictions!!!

If he does get tested on the geopolitical front, I think it will be from the Russians throwing their weight around again.

how so? has he said this? as far as i can remember he's said the opposite. any candidate who doesn't support israel is unelectable.
I would say the following international issues are at hand.
1. North Korea. They seem to have been tamed somewhat of late but will they flare up once again to test him and see if they can achieve anything?
2. Iran. Will they be allowed to continue to push towards possible nuclear armament? Will they continue to throw their influence militarily in Iraq through insurgencies and in Israel through Hamas unabated by the US?
3. Israel. Will Obama stand by Israel as have previous presidents? One area of concern is that the church he attended was politically active in favor of the Palestinian cause. Does this mean anything? We will see.
4. Russia. What will become of the situation in Georgia? Will it deteriorate? Will the US need to make stand?
5. Pakistan. They already have nukes and are on the verge of being overrun by Islamic fundamentalists. Will the US undermine the Pakistan government in any way that might allow for the radicals to take charge?
6. Venezuela. Will Russia use Venezuela as a pawn in a dangerous game of chess much like they used Cuba during the JFK years?
7. And lastly, does Obama see the US in a war with Islamo-fascist extremists? Will he sit down and negotiate with terrorist elements who have no interest in peace unless it means the destruction of Israel and/or the US? Will he continue to be engaged in a war with Isamo-fascism because they are surely in a war with the US or will he seek to appease their demands in the hope of deflecting their anger towards the US?

You can't wage a war against religious fundamentalists with guns, you have to do it with reason.
You see, this is what scares the poopy doo out of me. President Jimmy Carter let the Jennie out of the bottle when he undermined the Shah of Iran and let the Islamic radicals take over. He reasoned that the Shah was corrupt in some ways and that the US should let them fall. Then enters the radicals and almost immediately took US hostages and has been engaged in a war against the West ever since. However, to Carter, these where religious folks who believed in God like he did. Surely he could reason with such decent folk. You know, till this day he still does not get it. On the opposite spectrum, however, he did negotiate a peace with Israel and Egypt. You see, he is the man when it comes to negotiating peace with two sides that actually want peace but he becomes Nevill Chamerbin when he attempts to negotiate a peace with a side that has NO interest in peace much in the same spirit as Adolph Hitler. You see, Hitler had every intention of conquest and he saw those who attempted to dissuade his goals via negotiations as weak and treat them with contempt.
So tell me, what is there to negotiate with a country that declares that the Zionists will be cast into the sea and is currently as war with through Hamas? No doubt, Obama is determined to find out.
Originally posted by KazetNagorraYou may want to reread what you wrote. You wrote that we should reason with religious fundamentalists with guns. Do you see any obstacles to this? In fact, have you ever tried to "reason" with someone who is unreasonable or even insane? I have, and let me tell you it is a dead end street.

The difference is Adolf Hitler had an organised army, which you could fight and defeat. Islamic fundamentalists don't have an army, they have guerilla fighters who depend on support from the local population. You can't defeat a guerilla army unless you eradicate the entire population; for every civilian you kill a new guerilla fighter is recruited.
