From time to time Sports Illustrated has an article about chess. What other evidence could be needed that chess is a sport?

It requires physical stamina to play chess on a profressional level, this makes it a sport to me.

As long as I speak english, I must consider chess a sport:

1 a : a source of diversion : RECREATION b : sexual play c (1) : physical activity engaged in for pleasure (2) : a particular activity (as an athletic game) so engaged in

By the definition of 1a, at least....

Does anyone remember the national staring competition on the tele. Can't remember which program it was on but it was hilarious.

A lot of sports are minimal is physical excercise but still constitute sport because of their gladitorial nature. I say if snooker is a sport so is chess.
