I could hardly believe what I was reading when I noticed this article.

"Israeli Professor: Rape Hamas Militants' Mothers and Sisters to Deter Terrorist Attacks"
--Gianluca Mezzofiore (22 July 2014, 'International Business Times' )

Speaking on Israeli radio, Mordechai Kedar (Bar-Ilan University) proposed
that Israeli men (IDF soldiers, Shin Bet men, or Jewish settlers?) rape the
mothers, sisters, and/or wives of Hamas fighters, particularly suicide bombers.

Rape is a war crime under international law. But perhaps some supporter
of Israel who demonizes Hamas and dehumanizes the Palestinians could find
a way to get around that. So let's look at the possible implementation:

(The outrageousness of this story has provoked me to respond sarcastically.
I hope that my sarcasm conveys my anger at this sexist Israeli professor.)

Which Palestinian women or girls would be selected for raping by Israelis?
Would there be minimum or maximum age limits for eligibility to be raped?
Could a Palestinian woman or girl ask an Israeli doctor to write a medical
note excusing her from being raped? Could an Israeli rapist express a
preference in his choice of victim ('I want to rape the prettier sister!' ).
Would there be any limits about how many times or how long a Palestinian
woman or girl could be raped?

Which Israeli men would do the raping? IDF soldiers or Shin Bet men?
Would the rapists be volunteers or assigned? And if they were assigned to
rape, would it be seen as a reward or a punishment for their other conduct?
If IDF men are ordered to rape, then it becomes their military duty, and
so it should be described in IDF field manuals. Would the IDF issue a field manual
(with helpful illustrations) about an officially approved technique of raping?
Would the IDF videotape the rapes in order to be used for the instruction of
    rapists in training?

What of the potential consequences? Would the Palestinian victims and the
Israeli rapists be allowed or required to use contraceptives during the rapes?
Would the Israeli rapists receive psychiatric support afterward in order to
prevent them from developing any feelings of remorse or pity for their victims?

I hope that the Western women here who support Israel's oppression of the
Palestinians can begin to understand how deeply at least one Israeli man has
dehumanized Palestinian women and girls, regarding the sexual violation
of their defenceless bodies as a legitimate means of fighting 'terrorism'.

After some Israeli feminists objected, Mordechai Kedar's university did its
best to do 'damage control' in public relations, claiming that his comments
had been misunderstood and taken out of context. That makes one wonder
why Mordechai Kedar introduced the idea of raping Palestinian women at all.

"The only thing that deters them (Palestinian 'terrorists' ) is if they know
their sister or their mother will be raped in the event they are caught."
    --Mordechai Kedar

In fact, the Israeli radio host, Yossi Hadar (who was there), seems to have
interpreted Mordechai Kedar's comments as advocating that Israeli men rape
Palestinian women or girls related to captured or dead Palestinian 'terrorists'.
So why would this Israeli journalist have supposedly 'misunderstood' the
context of Mordechai Kedar's comments on raping Palestinian women?
Of course, other men (such as some Republican politicians in the USA)
have claimed that their comments on rape were 'misunderstood' after
they became aware of too much adverse public reaction to them.

When I searched on Google, various other sources are all repeating the International Business Times article so it is as reliable as the IBT is reliable.

    Thanks for your confidence.

'Haaretz' (a major Israeli newspaper) seems to have a transcript of Mordechai
Kedar (Bar-Ilan University) speaking about raping Palestinian women on the
Israeli radio programme, 'Hakol Diburim', which was broadcast on 1 July 2014.

"I'm talking about the facts. The only thing that deters a suicide bomber
is the knowledge ... his sister will be raped. That's all."
    --Mordechai Kedar

(Oh, why should I have to be my "brother's keeper"?)

Israeli feminists interpreted Mordechai Kedar's comments as inciting IDF soldiers
and perhaps Jewish settlers as well to rape Palestinian women and girls or
attempting to excuse these men from criminal blame if they were to rape.
I suspect that these Israeli women also were worried about a potential
retaliation in kind ('a rape for a rape' ) by Palestinian men. No Israeli woman
would like to be at more risk of rape because Israeli men were encouraged
to rape Palestinian women. And once some Israeli men were taught that
it's acceptable to rape women under some circumstances, why wouldn't some
of these men go further and rape Israeli women under other circumstances?

Mordechai Kedar's also known for his advocacy of allowing the Palestinians
to have *eight* separate (disconnected) 'states', each of which would be
isolated, weak, and surrounded by powerful Israel. In apartheid South Africa
this approach was called the 'tribal homelands' (Bantustan) strategy.

According to Benny Morris, an Israeli historian (and other sources), the
Israelis raped Palestinian women during Israel's War of Independence (1948).
These rapes contradict the IDF's self-proclaimed value of 'purity of arms'.

"Israelis' collective memory of fighters characterized by 'purity of arms' is
also undermined by the evidence of rapes committed (by Israeli men on
Palestinian women and girls) in conquered towns and villages."

Another "according to......". We do know that Palestinian terrorists use children as suicide bombers, rape and behead their enemies and at present engage in random rocket attacks on residential areas.

What relevance has your post to the present conflict, and what Hamas is doing right now?

Since Duchess named the source your "according to..." objection is invalid. As far as I'm aware Hamas is not accused of rapes or beheadings, care to name a source for those allegations?

Was this a serious suggestion, or a bit of sensationalist sarcasm?

The rockets keep coming, and Hamas has nixed the cease fire repeatedly.

Normbenign's nearly illiterate and has no comprehension of scholarly citation.
Of course, Normbenign often pulls his 'facts' (such as his absurd claim that
Timothy McVeigh was arrested very near 'Ground Zero' in Oklahoma City)
    out of his paranoid imagination.

Here's a case of Israeli soldiers evidently raping Palestinian women and girls
as well as murdering many Palestinian men:

"Women pleaded for mercy. 3 cases of rape. A girl of 14 raped. Another four killed."

You could hardly believe what you were reading? I bet. You loved it, because this give you more fuel for your propaganda war against Israel.

RJHinds, a fanatical Christian fundamentalist supporter of Israel, has liked to
keep denying basic facts such as the *existence* of the Palestinian people.
(In other threads, RJHinds has been writing of the so-called 'Palestinian' people.)
RJHinds presumably would like to regard the Palestinian people's *existence*
as mere 'propaganda'. (The Palestinians who I have met looked real to me.)

In fact, even according to some Israeli sources (cited earlier), Israeli soldiers
have raped Palestinian women and girls. I suspect that RJHinds would like
to deny or cover up those crimes completely because he, being extremely
racist and sexist, presumably would not consider them seriously wrong.

Is there any lie that RJHinds would not tell on behalf of his beloved Israel?

Nothing but an ad hominem attack and more propaganda.
