I strongly disagree. Perhaps you feel that you can not find common ground. If that is the case, then I assert that you are too unbending in your positions.
I can not recall a time in my life when the country has been as polarized as it is now. Based on what I know of the 60's, it seems that is approaching that level.
Our country needs to work together, not against each other. We need to agree to disagree and agree where we can agree.
However using unity as a mask for redistribution of wealth, gun control, the creation of a ''obama gestapo''(and other things Obama and the democrats are going to do) , is vile.

When Democrats say "unity," that's code for: Republicans should just shut the hell up and stay out of our way while we push the country further along the uphill path of socialism. No thanks -- I will never be quiet.
Unity is an admirable aspiration. But it is not applicable to reality. If everyone agrees then there is no change. Also if all politicians united, then obviously some of the minorities in our population would not have their views represented in the govt. the fact that the parties disagree is good, it means that we have the opportunity to see both sides and pick between them.
The only kind of division that is wrong is the kind based on stupidity. If you disagree with someone because you trully believe in a different ideal than they do, Good!
But if you disagree because you've been told to, or because you've always disagreed (see middle east for examples...but also American Politics works too!) Then you are a fool.
Unity means one opinion, do you really think we could all agree!
NO. Everyone has their different opinions and they deserve to be represented. DEBATE IS PART OF WHAT MAKES AMERICA GREAT!

But, to walk in lock-step is not the American way.

As for you comment that we have had enough conservatism, I would say hogwash. Bush would not know conservatism if it hit him up side the head. As a conservative, I feel that I have not had any political representation for quite some time.
It is my belief that whoever gets elected, they should have their feet held to the fire. Accountability is lacking in Washington especially when the easiest thing to do is blame the other party for all our troubles. In fact, I hope every Congressman who was present the last two years be booted out of office. There were enough warnings about the credit crisis that those in Congress did nothing to remedy. My only wish is that both presidential candidates were not current Senators in office. An outsider would have been nice.

Why should US politics be "united"? If anything, there should be an electoral reform to allow more parties and create more diverse politics.
Don't you know that American politics is perfect as is? We need no reform in government, we need no third party. In fact, all we need is more unity to embrace the status quo. In fact, the bigger government becomes the better, so lets tax, tax, tax. Save us Big Brother by silencing voices of opposition!!! Perhaps we can get the "Fairness Doctrine" passed?

Not at all. If that is how you would like to take, that would be great.
You know that the more you use the word Socialism, they more you sound like an idiot. Everyone, even your candidate says that what Obama has in mind isn't Socialism.
