He had to. The Republicans were threatening to cut off unemployment benefits.
Yeah, and he just had to overrrule his EPA on the smog rules. He just has to cave on whatever the right-wing Repubs want or, you know, they'll get their way... Oops, I mean... "Your wife or your kids! Or we'll kill them both!" "Oh, well, if you put it that way, I really can't afford to just stand up to you..."

I voted for him. As I indicated in the "rope-a-dope" thread, I really hope you, and others, can convince me that my growing cyncism about the President that I voted for is wrong.

Are you going to vote Republican because of this? I doubt it.

No. But I am not going to vote for a Democrat whose election ultimately results in Republican policy victories anyway--or sets the stage for a complete Republican domination next go 'round.

I wonder about the fact, for example, that Nixon (Republican) ended the Vietnam war (however), opened trade with communist China (though he sent a good union negotiator to do it), and supported and signed OSHA... I wonder how much Obama has done to undermine the principles and hopes of many of the very people who voted for him. I'm not sure that things would have looked a whole lot different if McCain had been elected (even saddled with Sarah)--in spite of any and all election rhetoric: Obama certainly has not stood up for some of the things he expounded when running.

EDIT: In terms of "letting them win", or some such, by not voting for Obama next time--gee, I kinda think they already have, with his (witting or unwitting) help.
