If I'm ASKING, then it's because I don't know, innit?
From National Review:
...Joe Wurzelbacher, an Ohio plumber who wants to buy a business but knows it’s going to hurt him, tax-wise, if Barack Obama becomes president.
To his concerns, Obama told Joe: “It’s not that I want to punish your success, I just want to make sure that everybody who is behind you, that they’ve got a chance at success, too. I think when you spread the wealth around, it's good for everybody.”
What does that sound like to you. Could it be . . . Marx? Could it be . . . socialism?...

Basically, Obama is saying that he doesn't care if you make more money because even though you worked on Saturday, he's got friends who need your dough. So he will decide how much is enough for you and take it and give it to his friends. We used to call this "a mugging." However, at least with a mugger, he will take your money and run away. Obama will not go away. In fact, he will keep coming back and take all the money you earn working overtime on Saturday or whenever and use it to hire more people to manage more areas of your life like: is your thermostat set low enough; is your toilet small enough so that it doesn't flush properly; do you have energy-saving lightbulbs in your home; are you driving an energy-efficient car; are your tires inflated properly, etc., etc. etc.

Someone who doesn't understand the tax system like Joe does probably shouldn't buy a business. He seems to think that you could be made worse off by taxes then you are now if you make more money. But that's absurd; the tax rates are marginal i.e. income at the lower levels is taxed at the same rate no matter what your total income is. Assuming that the business we are talking about made more than $250,000 a year, the total effect of Obama's proposal would be that it would pay $3.00 more for every $100.00 it made in profits above a quarter of a million dollars. No rational person would abandon the purchase of a profitable business rather than accept such a minor increase in MARGINAL rates.
Unlike the Republicans, who believe that you can keep cutting the rich's taxes until doomsday and just run up the deficit ad infinitum, Obama recognizes that if you cut most people's taxes then someone else's have to be raised to make up the difference. That's a little too responsible for our right wing nuts to understand.
Originally posted by EladarYou should actually try to realize what people are talking about. The subject discussed between Joe and Obama was the latter's proposal to increase the highest marginal rate from 36% to 39%. Since it is a business, that rate only applies to profit. Your "point" is utterly irrelevant as any other taxes are deductible before you figure the business' taxable income.

When you have a business, you end up with alot of new taxes that you don't have as an employee. You should study up on the subject.
Maybe you should work as an accountant and have done small business' tax returns like I have done before you spout off with such misinformed irrelevancies.
BTW, I am a business.
