Barack Obama told an audience of Argentinian youth that the differences between socialism and capitalism make interesting conversation but just pick whatever works. The ideological-left US president suddenly doesn’t have an affinity for ideology.

He said in the past there was a sharp division between communists, socialists and capitalists but that is merely an intellectual argument and it’s not so today.

“So often in the past there has been a division between left and right, between capitalists and communists or socialists, and especially in the Americas, that’s been a big debate,” Obama said at the Buenos Aires town hall.

“Those are interesting intellectual arguments, but I think for your generation, you should be practical and just choose from what works. You don’t have to worry about whether it really fits into socialist theory or capitalist theory. You should just decide what works.”

For Obama, high taxation, wild spending, government agency domination over the people and heavy regulations work which tells you what he is.

Looking at longevity, Obama must admire the brutal totalitarian Roman empire lasting almost 2000 years.

That "worked".

Obama give short shrift to a critical detail, where Socialism and Capitalism differ. Choice! In Socialist economies choice is limited. What is produced and consumed is the choice of the government, not of producers and consumers, as it is under capitalism.

I wonder what Obama thinks does not "work".

I'd say everything works except those looking for work in his centralized driven economy

Can you summarize which steps, in your opinion, Obama has taken to get to a "centralized driven economy" as opposed to whatever it was before Obama?

Obama just passed health care legislation that involved a sizable chunk of the economy.

Then there is the Fed that basically pulls our strings like a puppet just like a centralized bank is designed to do.

I see. So to get from a non-centralized driven economy to a centralized driven one, all one has to do is pass a minor health care reform?

Typical socialist theory is that Capitalism favors those with money, and that is true, but not a serious fault. Money is simply a means of exchange, and money can be saved or spent.

Capitalists recognize that progress results from delaying satisfaction by spending in favor of saving. People who "have money", have it because at some time they sacrificed immediate satisfaction for future satisfaction.

Could you perhaps back up that statement empirically?
