Good for them there becoming a little more western and democratic its a small step but a big one for that region. With them and Iraq and Afghanistan becoming more western and less fundementalist there is hope yet for stabalizing other nations in that region.

Perhaps he misspoke, I don’t think we need to ascribe the notion that Western ideology = good and all others = bad. I do think any societal construct that relegates women to second-class citizenry by denying them a voice (read that: vote) in their own government is one that is trapped in the past. Do you agree or disagree?

lol...l sounds like the argument we have going on in feminism. I just brought up this point today, women getting the vote in kuwait. I'm just wondering now how free of a vote it is. Anyway you look at it it's progress and hope for all of humankind.

This is good news, but I think hope is limited until real democracy catches on in the big countries in the Arab world, such as Egypt and Saudi Arabia.

No1 are you saying the US in not a 'real democracy'?

You say this as if we have not had a history of diversity in the White House for the past 20+ years.

5 terms for the Bushes and 2 for Clinton ... this is 'real democracy' ... yes?

And the possibility is out there for another Clinton ... if Hillary runs and wins ... but that is fodder for another thread.
