@no1marauder saidWhile I'm kind of ambivalent about legalization of hard drugs like Heroin, Cocaine and Meth, I agree that the sentencing for these things under the USSG is out of control.
President Biden has commutted the sentences of around 2500 non-violent drug offenders.
It's not legalization but it's a start at recognizing that these laws are unduly harsh and unnecessary burdens on personal decisions that really are none of Big Daddys business.
So, with the caveat that I'm not going to look into the histories of all 2,500, and so there may be people in there who don't deserve this, I'll say that in general, this is a good thing.
@sh76 saidExcessive sentencing is more out of control in the states.

Various Governors (cough, Mike Pence) got huge "campaign contributions" from companies wanting to build prisons, on the condition that they increase penalties for marijuana and even possession of drug paraphernalia to get more people into the prison to show a need for those prisons.

I can find the name of the prison-building company if you can't.

"Pence and President Donald Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, visited Capitol Hill Tuesday to push for the bipartisan criminal justice overhaul, which would boost rehabilitation efforts for federal prisoners and give judges more discretion when sentencing nonviolent offenders, particularly for drug offenses."
"
A rare bipartisan coalition — including Trump, lawmakers from both parties, liberal advocacy groups and major GOP donors — is advocating passage of the criminal justice bill, which would revise 1980s and ’90s-era “tough on crime” laws. Supporters say the changes would make the nation’s criminal justice system fairer, reduce overcrowding in federal prisons and save taxpayer dollars."

GEO Group is the company that kicked back over $100,00 to Pence for agreeing to build prisons and recommend higher penalties for non-violent drug offenses a year or two before the facts in this article took place.
Yes, this is about the same company paying one of Trump's super-PACs over $100,000, but this was not their first time to this rodeo.

I was talking about kickbacks Pence received for okaying new state prisons in Indiana while Governor. The GEO Group was the company who paid Pence and the same company paid one of Trump's super-PACs later.

@sh76 saidI have to agree with you and I'm a Libertarian, and generally in disagreement on this with most Libertarians.

Druggies cost us all way too much in medical costs, the costs of being institutionalized and burial costs.
that is my argument based on Libertarian principle
