I'll add a bit of commentary here. It is not lost on me that MAGA-bots may read the excerpts from Hannah Arendt's book The Origins of Totalitarianism that I've been posting to this forum and think "Yeah, that's Democrats and the 'woke' to a tee!" But to this I say: "Not so fast."
History teaches that, time and again, only totalitarians and fascists go to war with established science. That is the ultimate litmus test in determining who is truly fascist to the core. Put aside social and political attitudes, with all their shades of gray, and look to who denies climate change, or the efficacy of vaccines, or the established harms of environmental pollutants, and so on. Only totalitarians, of whom fascists are a subspecies, contest established scientific facts, and hold esteemed experts in their fields—and the educated class in general—in utter contempt.
The educated are far more likely to see through the lies of totalitarian (read: Republican) propaganda, and so, upon gaining power, one of the first things a fascist must do in the course of fabricating an alternate reality in which plans for unleashing hair-raising horrors against humanity can safely incubate is to purge experts from all government agencies, and attack academia and the internal affairs of universities and other institutions of learning. This is now underway in the US.
