In Utah, there are 75,000 kids who participate in high school sports, and only four transgender children, Cox said. Only one of those students plays a girls’ sport. These numbers played a role in Cox’s veto.
“That’s what all of this is about,” Cox said. “Four kids who are just trying to find some friends and feel like they are a part of something. Four kids trying to get through each day. Rarely has so much fear and anger been directed at so few. I don’t understand what they are going through or why they feel the way they do. But I want them to live.”
A decent human being in the republican party?
The veto was overruled. Another state to attack children. Oh well. Cruelty towards children is the American way
@zahlanzi saidExactly. Passing a bloody law that affects 1 kid. Maybe 4.

God damn.
I do think there is an issue with trans women playing female sports. Or, I can imagine there would be.
However, passing laws on this subject which targets so few people is just very nasty.
Especially when it’s a bloody kid.
Maybe sports should just be seen as games and people should just enjoy playing, rather than winning.
@zahlanzi saidYeah, he may not be a Trump Republican, but the rest of the State House is.

@shavixmir saidthey already don't allow boys-to-girls to participate in sports except after a one year of hormone treatment and consults with a specialist.

This is just cruelty for its own sake

a/k/a:
"Somebody make this issue go away. We know it's a loser, but we can't control the Genie we've let loose and he ain't going back in the bottle."
Somebody should go tell the swimmers Lia Thomas beat that they should feel better because a unicorn beat them.
Anyway, if these laws affects so few people, they should hardly be worth your time to attack.

I hear that a lot from people with no athletic ability. There are clubs people like you can join to socialize, sports by nature are competitive.
@zahlanzi saidanother state PROTECTING women!

What if some girl loses a championship title because some other girl beat her? Let's make a law banning all trans girls from participating in sports meant to first and foremost give children some excuse to socialize with their friends.
Let's tell trans girls that they are not to socialize with other girls, that they don't belong.
You know, it really warms my heart to see such concern towards girls and women from the party that will force a 12 year old to give birth to her rapist's child. It really is about respect towards "real women" says the party that knows how to define a woman: a baby incubator.
@sh76 saidEvery elite athlete is an anatomical oddity. The NCAA is far from a perfect organization but they a private organization setting rules and guidelines in ways they feel will best serve their athletes and fans. I don't think governments should be intruding on those decisions unless basic freedoms are involved. Of course scholarships and ad dollars are at stake, but I don't think basic freedoms are being infringed.

@wildgrass saidyou mean there should be smaller government? like a republican (a real one) would say? shocking

An umbrella, but a unicorn.
