You have more qualifications than the Ph.D. degree in air pollution meteorology from the University of Michigan that the author of the piece I cited to does?
NOT!

I guess we will have to agree to disagree.
2/3 of all petroleum is non recoverable. Some day that may change but I think it is fair to say that 1/2 will never be extracted and burned. The same is probably true of all fossil fuels. I don't see your worst case scenario ever happening.
You and I, of course, can agree to differ; and since neither of us is a scientist, I suppose we should. As I see it, though, we have to defer to the opinions of those experts who have studied the matter. While there may be a debate among RHP subscribers, I honestly don't think there is much of a debate among reputable scientists. Pretty much all of them agree that man-made global warming is real and is a threat.

The point is, the system was stable until we started pumping man-made greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. Changes in the sun's intensity might be the main factor in the increases in temperature we've experienced this last few years. However, man-made global warming, even if a minor factor to date, has the potential to destabilise the system so that tempe ...[text shortened]... nhouse gases cause problems. CO2 is just the one we have most chance of doing something about.
It is as easy to persuade the average US American that global warming is a myth as it is to persuade an Arab peasant that America is the Great Satan responsible for all their ills. It's mob politics or demagogy in which a splash of reasonable content is diluted in a wash of smoke and mirrors.
I'm not sure I care if the followers of Sarah Palin suspect that Global Warming is a myth: why even start to persuade such people? Why try to explain the basic science and the concepts of probability to people who are just not switching on their thinking heads?
I am sick of the US thinking their selfish interests trump the considered views of the rest of the planet. The rest of the World thinks they are WRONG and the US Right can stick that where it suits.
