Ah yes. The common misperception that the left is passionate or bleeding of heart...

Just because we want honesty and fairness, doesn't make us soft.
And believe me, Mrs. T isn't the only capitalist b*stard on my death wish list.

Yes, a divided country of have and have-nots, with an impoverished generation of OAP's who cannot afford to keep warm this winter.
Because the country was so perfect before she ruined it.

No, but she made it a whole lot worse.

Well, I believe it was Labour that just about bankrupted the country...

I only hope that Thatcher dies a long, slow painful lingering death.

May she suffer as she made the poor, old and disadvantaged suffer during her reign of tyranny.
Why do so many people who support democracy so strongly and want to push it on other countries forcibly still blame thier leaders for everything. It is a fact that a large portion of the British population voted for Thatcher and supported her policies. Do you wish the same pain and suffering on them ?

It did seem like that at the time, and it was certainly true for a lot of people.
But on the whole? I'm not so sure.
I'm not old enough to remember the 70's (at least not the politics, etc.) but I'm sure it wasn't perfect. In fact I've read it was pretty bad.
And it seems, the further you go back, the rich-poor divide gets worse - Thatch certainly wasn't responsible for more than a minor blip in the trend.

Thatcher never got more than 40% of the vote. One of the reasons she won successive elections was the internal problems of the labour party, rather than the popularity of her policies - a bit like the current situation in reverse.

Are you saying that we should elect our leaders every 4 or 5 years and then accept everything they do without criticism. If so, you're missing the point of democracy.
Democracy isn't just about elections. It is about holding elected representatives accountable, and about people being able to object to the actions of their 'leaders'.

Thatcher ripped the guts out of this country, and caused untold pain and misery to millions of people. Sure, some people got rich on the back of her free-market mumbo-jumbo, but most of us were worse off. There will be celebrations up and down the land when she finally goes.

Because the people who have posted in this thread who wish a painful, lingering death on Maggie are the sort of disempowered losers who always find things are being done to them, rather than getting on with it and making a difference.

The only thing they can do is complain.

If you understood more about politics, you would not make such glib, sweeping statements about people you know nothing about.

Maybe we should look at the latest page of Thread 34266 to some some needless complaining from a disempowered loser.

Some people complain about the way the country was run, others complain about the result of an online chess tournament. I know who I think the losers are.

No, but I'll bet she's close to the top.

Jesus, is that the best response to my post you can come up with?

But at least I didn't wish a painful, lingering death on anyone, eh?

Agreed, Mrs Thatcher did a difficult job at a differcult job. Whether she was an evil monster or a genius is not relevent, i do not think we are in a position to judge her-- much less wish her dead for doing a job which she was doing for what she thought was the best for the country.

AP-

Margaret Thatcher walked out of the hospital today. When asked how she accounts for her quick recovery she raised a fist and between clenched teeth was believed to have murmured, "Howard Gee." However, a quick search of hospital records revealed no Dr. Howard Gee as having been one of her attending physicians.
