I earn 50% more than my equally educated partner, and 15-25% less than my equally-educated male counterparts at work.

I've never been the dumpee in a relationship. While it is more cozy at night next to a warm adult-male body, I'm no more dependent on him than I am my dogs. I appreciate the companionship, but am not dependent on it.

I'm going back to the "Males are becoming sex-objects" thread.

I actually made significantly more than my last boyfriend and was wondering what the women out there think. Is making more than your significant other liberating or not? Benefits? :-) Interested in hearing different viewpoints.

Do I feel liberated because I earn more than my partner?

The benefit, to me, in earning a solid income, solid being relative of course, is knowing that I do not have to depend on another person to handle my expenses. I suppose it is liberating in that I have no fear of material loss should the relationship dissolve.

Having an equal (or greater/breadwinning) position in monetary matters hasn't really affected other aspects of my relationships. I don't use it as leverage in any way. In fact, there has been the slightest unspoken feeling of...pity? I know that men are raised with notions that they are providers. I imagine that earning less than the woman may create feelings of inadequacy as the "hunter", so I am careful to keep things very equal, financially.

What does this have to do with males being sex objects? Do you think that women are sex objects if their companion earns more than them?

That people wonder about this reveals only the inequality of opportunity present in our society and how it influences people's subconscious notions of 'order'.

I find it interesting that so many women do think that the only reasons for having a man are
1. Money
2. Sex

Whatever happened to partnership, companionship etc.
If all men wanted was sex they would probably go for prostitutes. Shouldn't rich women do that too if thats all they are looking for?

My experience is that even when a woman earns more than you, she still wants to spend half your salary as well!

And many men think the only reason for a woman is sex, cleaning, and cooking.

I'm surprised to hear you've had women who earn more and want to "spend half your salary". On what? Shopping, or bills?

It is very hot, but why? Would it be less hot if she earned less than you, or had no job? I think so. Is it because you know that she's doing it for no other reason than to please you...no chance of it being a "trade-off"?

I just think it would be interesting if men actually were more secure in a relationship in which the woman is outearning. Takes away the "She's in it for the money" concern.
