Rene Boucher must also serve six months in home confinement, U.S. District Court Judge Matthew Leitman said Monday. Boucher will receive credit for the 30 days in prison he has already served.

The severity of his injuries led to several bouts of pneumonia, and eventually, he had to undergo hernia surgery due to chronic coughing. His neighbor, Rene Boucher, was initially sentenced to 30 days in jail for the assault but later received an additional eight months in prison.

Rand also had some of his injured lung removed.
