Overwhelming immigration is a destructive problem. It is a serious reality facing all western nations. (IMHO) This astounding migration is occurring due to modern communications and for this reason, will only increase. Rational control must be used to avoid immigrants destroying the very thing they seek to find.
Prior to world-wide television & print, very poor areas of earth did not realise the degree of their poverty compared to the west. These peoples now know a better existence is available, if only they go there. This situation is something that governments must deal with in a serious, adult manner and not see immigration as “short term” means to import large numbers of votes for up-coming elections to garner political power and there-by create a greater “long term” problem.

WITH MASS IMMIGRATION NO ONE FEELS AT HOME - By Charles Moore
“The Government Mr. Brown now leads has presided over by far the largest immigration in our history. In 1996, the official projection for net immigration was 65,000 per year. This September, the office of national statistics revised its projection from 145,000 to 190,000. Gross immigration since 1997 has been 4.4 mil.”
“Although the government has lost control, it should not be concluded it did not intend what has happened.”
“It got rid of the system of counting people in and out and noting the difference between the two. Its only current means of knowing is something called the International Passenger Survey, which is a mere random questionnaire. In 1997 Labour relaxed immigration rules on the grounds of marriage, passed the Human Rights Act, giving immigrants automatic right to welfare benefits and making it harder to deport them even when they are criminal. Then self-defined asylum-seekers were accepted in large numbers. When the outcry became too great, Government hugely increased number of work permits instead. Grants of permanent settlement have trebled since 1996.”
“How can it easily be home – for us, or for them – when, as is now the case, 450,000 children in British primary schools do not have English as a first language? How can it, emotionally or even physically, be home for the indigenous poor if the newcomers move ahead of them in the council housing queue?”
“Just as we look back on the Seventies as a time when politicians got everything wrong about industrial relations, so, I think, we shall look back on the past 10 years as a time of craziness about immigration”

Immigration is being encouraged because the birth rate in most western countries is not high enough to sustain economic growth.
If you want to stop immigration you have to start having at least 3 kids per family like it used to be back in the day.
Most families only have 1 or 2 kids now. Get out yer Viagra baby!
Originally posted by MacSwainI largely agree, although I'm concerned that an immigrant backlash will at some point sweep through the people like wildfire before "government" actually does something about it.

I keep hearing (Radio 4) that the increased foreign workforce is a great benefit to the British economy...well, that may be, especially if we ignore the dregs of naturalised Brits that sit on their *sses collecting dole.
But what about public services?
In some areas (NHS, Education etc etc), resources are being shrunk and in many cases curtailed due to migrant workforce's families taking advantage of the facilities...the simple matter of translators are a huge burden financially, even assuming you can find one...
I'd like a migrant workforce policy to work for any host country's economy, I really would.
But I really can't see how it can, if certain loopholes aren't properly closed.

Stop worrying about it. Everything always changes, always has and always will.
I look favourably on immigration if they bring good restaurants with them.

I spent a year in the UK in 1975/76 and it was all greasy fish and chips, tasteless steak and kidney pie, watery soups and unseasoned baked chicken. The best food was probably the cheese and onion sandwiches served in the pubs.
Thanks to immigration thats all changed now.

It was at that time I acquired a taste for pickled eggs and bombay mix, these being the only fare available with flavour and that was filling.
Caution : Not advised. Extreme Windage.
Cheese & onion toasties were 80's weren't they...all the sarnies were re-constituted cardboard...?
