It was more incompetence than "manipulation". From your article:

"Aligning with the State’s definition will require Alameda County to report as COVID-19 deaths only those people who died as a direct result of COVID-19, with COVID-19 as a contributing cause of death, or in whom death caused by COVID-19 could not be ruled out,” the health officials said, noting that their system of reporting COVID-19 deaths on the dashboard and to the state was implemented early in the pandemic, before the state established guidelines for how deaths should be classified."

So one county in California not following State guidelines is hardly proof of some evil conspiracy. And it does not effect State numbers:

"The state death toll, however, only includes cases in which COVID-19 was determined to be a primary or contributing factor or could not be ruled out entirely."

Maybe it's just a tallying error based on certain parameters.
But you have to call it data manipulation.
If Fauci said something that was later deemed to be incorrect or not entirely accurate as we all learn more about a virus no one knew anything about, then he is called a liar.

Now......when a sitting president says that COVID cases will go down to 0 (from 15) as if by magic when he knew darn well the pandemic was far more serious, now that is what I call a liar !!
And a dumbass !!

@Metal-Brain

I would suggest that if they ever intended "evil" in issuing false statements in the onset, then they would likely not amend that.

The CDC does manipulate data. Defend them if you dare.
Why is there no universal standard of Covid deaths? Why do they change they way they count them?

Should my county count them anyway we want? Why the discrepancy? Why should you have any trust in the count process?
