Undoubtedly Iran will make some sort of tit-for-tat gesture, as it did after the assassination of Soleimani. It's a way of life in the ME. Israelis know this and will be on high alert.

Israel already has embassies around the world on high alert.

When one considers what Israel *could* endure in retribution to this assassination, you have to wonder why Israel did kill this one man.

It's part of a strategy of maintaining a permanent low-level conflict, just short of heavy artillery. Of course, it takes two to play that game.

Unlike the Americans, who declare "mission accomplished," award themselves medals of valour, and go home after a few years, leaving the field to the VietCong, ISIS, or the Taliban (as the case may be be).

But is NK warring or just menacing?

I think Afghanistan is a good example of permanent warring,

@Earl-of-Trumps
NK soldiers take pot shots over the border and they continue to launch missile tests, some of which flew over Japanese territory.

My guess is they won't do anything provocative till Biden takes office since it will be literally months before Biden can correct all the obvious yes men and corruption he added to our security folks like intel, secretary of defense and minions under the top levels so that confusion will lead to adversaries seeing an opening and acting accordingly.

They don't want Iran to have nukes. Israel has already beaten nearly everyone around them in conventional warfare.

Since no one is killed with these missile firings, ,I consider it "menacing", not warring.

And why doesn't Japan and SKorea be the ones that take combative action?? Why the US??

I understand.

The fact that no one around wants Israel to have nukes means,,, well, nothing.

You know, Iran invented the Assassin. It's kind of sad that they don't seem to be good at that sort of thing any more.

The USA nuked Japan and forced it at bayonet point to become a nearly pacifist nation. Not really their fault.

South Korea isn't strong enough to fight off North Korea if the Chinese or Russians get involved (as they did before). And they don't have nukes, and nuclear proliferation worries everybody.

No peace treaty was signed in the Korean conflict, so technically the parties are still at war. This is probably part of the 'justification' the autocratic regime employs to keep the No. Korean people in a permanent state of fear of imminent attack and under effective martial law.
