Discrimination?

The trouble is that most European governments have failed to excercise this faculty to distinguish between desirable and undesirable immigrants on the basis of their potential contribution to society.
What a bunch of brainless junk...as usual in these debates forums lately.

If you take only the "desirable" (ie smart, intelligent, skilled) people from a country, then what does that country have left? Dumb, unintelligent, unskilled people. How can you possibly build a nation if other countries keep syphoning off the precious few people that are needed to build these countries?

Well, you don't have to get all huffy -- I only wanted to point it out because I didn't want you to embarrass yourself in front of polite company. By the way, did you know that in the Second Edition of the Simon & Schuster Handbook for Writers, there are five pages of homonyms, yet the list doesn't include "retch" and "wretch"? I think it's pretty cool that you stumped the experts. So if anyone reading this is inclined, please post an update to let us know if the later editions include darvlay's find.

There is no quick and easy one step "Solution".

Before you can have full integration, you have to have acceptance.

Before you can have acceptance, you have to have tolerance.

Before you have tolerance you have to get rid of cultural and racial discrimination.

Where do you think France is in this spectrum? France has a LONG way to go...as do most countries.

Anything else irrelevant you'd like to say?

They have "der schwarze Ritter" listed as a homonym to "wretch"

I wonder why he's resorted to discussing my spelling of a slang? I can only imagine that he wants to make himself look intelligent to balance with the way he portrays himself as an intolerant ignoramus in his opening post.

That's just fancy words, to which I agree with, but are ultimately just talk.

What's the first step? What can France do NOW?

I'm sorry, but I think that every citizen of a country must abide by its laws. Discrimination is no excuse for this type of violence, especially in a country that has so many social aids. There are many other ways demonstrate.

Many people think that the problem is more with organized crime setting up these attacks in the banlieues (due to extra policing) than with an uprise of the general Muslim population. I don't know a single Muslim that agrees with this type of action.

This people are giving all Muslims a bad name and must be dealt with. A country cannot allow for lawlessness in some areas inside its territory. It's unthinkable and can only create more vicious cycles where if you are born there, you'll never have the chance of a normal life.

I agree that there is no excuse for violence but that's not to say that discrimination is what started this whole vicious cycle. But I suppose that argument is for another thread.

As for what to do now? They are screwed. Those ghettos will only get worse if immediate and forceful action is taken under such public scrutiny. You cannot just build a wall, or employ mass incarcerations and deportations, as I'm sure you realize. They've made their bed and now they must lie in it. That may sound defeatist but that's the reality of it. It's going to be a loooong healing process.

Mock me all you want, but while you “I’m OK, you’re OK” types keep giving terrorists a great big wet one, there will come a day when they have hung the Canadian prime minister and hoisted the croissant (note my clever, but incorrect insertion of a homonym here) over the Parliament building, and you’ll be on the refugee trail to either Alberta or Texas, and you’ll say: How could this have happened here?

Are you talking about terrorists or muslims, or are they one and the same to you? If a muslim takes part in civil unrest, is he/she a terrorist?

Don't answer that.

no, the terrorists don't hate our freedom cause they know we don't have any since we're just a bunch of socialist commies in Canada.

Terrorists? 😕

Where did that come from? Read the article, most police officials believe this is not about Muslim extremism but about organized crime.

Why should attacks on police patrols on specific neighbourhoods be a sign of Muslim extremism?

It's too late now. Like the US in Iraq. You just can't leave and pretend it doesn't exist. You have to do something but there are no good solutions.

Time is the only thing that will heal these wounds. Time, and a sense of ressurection on both sides. It will be ugly and long.
