Well, I wonder what you all make of this.
The Dutch food authorities have issued a new food disc. You know: percentage of what you should eat to eat healthy.
So, the new guidelines have split meat-proteins in 2 categories.
Red meat (beef, pork, venison, etc. ) should be kept to 100 grams per week.
And the intake of the rest of these meat proteins (chicken and fish) have been drastically reduced as well.
Besides new data about red meat being a cause of cancer (I believe bowel cancer, but I’m not sure), they’re also taking environmental issues into consideration: if we don’t take care of the environment, then that’s not going to be healthy for someone either.
What do you all think of this?
Me? Who the hell is going to eat a 100 gram steak?
It’s not realistic at all. So, nobody (except vegetarians) are going to pay it any heed. It’s no longer a gently nudging guideline, it’s zealous attempt at fearmongering change (and this never really works).
I’ll have myself a 300 gram schnitzel tonight. With a musthroom reduction sauce… to even it all out a little.
@shavixmir saidFear-mongering indeed. We AGREE!!!

@shavixmir saidSo you prefer RFK jnr’s food pyramid?

And to be clear I am an omnivore, but I think the veggie path does lead to better health outcomes…
@AverageJoe1 saidI’m pretty sure there will be a subtle distinction…

@kmax87 saidI’ve never read it. I do prefer that people be responsible for what they eat. It is called self-reliance. Golly, can you imagine relying on yourself?

You people think about government so much , which of course is RFK , that you lose sight of the sparrow, the heart within you.
Take care of yourself, be healthy be successful be productive, be good. A few good rules to live by.
@shavixmir saidIs this the observation that people who obsess about everything they eat only live longer because their life is so joyless and boring and without any fun that it only seems that way? ð
Does happiness count towards health?
Though of the people that generally live the longest, being part of a community where you are a valued member, rates higher than what you eat. I would say that being happy is an intrinsic part of it. I don’t think you could be a valued member of a group and not find happiness in your participation.
@Sleepyguy saidYou really think so?
No. Only compliance.
Depressed people live as long as happy people?
@AverageJoe1 saidOh, so now I lose my independence by becoming dependent on your good advice? Thanks a lot! ðĪŠ

@shavixmir saidIf they do live as long, I would hate their quality of life. Being mean and miserable would be worse than living in a prison cell.

@AverageJoe1 saidThe written word can be very dry. If we were sitting across a table you would get it from my voice and tone, that I was being a little sarcastic maybe, a little ironic, just going for the giggles.
Don’t get you there, it is good advice. What is your problem? You are all so angry with the slightest things.. weird stuff
ðĪ
@shavixmir saidNo, I don't really think so! Dry humor and sarcasm just don't get through on this forum but I'll keep trying.

The food pyramid taught in US schools when I was a kid turned the whole damned country into diabetics so farmers could sell us lots of grain.
The new Dutch guidelines you're posting about sound like a similar attempt at social control over climate mania.
Eat what you want!
