Before I even look at the link, I'm going to guess it's those church nutjobs who showed up at the funeral for two servicemen, preaching that God was punishing us for being a country that "harbors" gays.

Edit: I was right. Reading that article made my blood boil.

Quote from source: "The church, which is not affiliated with a larger denomination, is made up mostly of Phelps’ children, grandchildren and in-laws." End Quote. That should tell you something about disallowing the gene pool to expand beyond the back yard. These are are radical, misguided, obviously inbreded "non-Christians"......not common thank goodness...

True, but I remember one of the Tele-evangelists (Falwell or Robertson??) making similiar statements regarding 9/11: that God was punishing America for such things as abortion, gay rights, not having prayer in the schools, etc. etc. and that 9/11 was part of it. I think it's a fairly common belief among the Christian Right, though someone having the incredible effrontery to protest at a serviceman's funeral is beyond my comprehension.

That's true.

"it's a fairly common belief among the Christian Right."

What you fail to state is that the Christian Right represents about 1% of Christian thinking in America.

Their website is absolutely incredible. They have been known to say the tsunami was God's judgement upon homosexuality. And sadly there are those who believe it.

I agree with you, but many Christians, myself included, do believe that the US, as well as the world in general is experiencing the wrath of nature by a watchful God. I only believe this because I beieve the Bible as God's word written through chosen authors as a message for us to heed: "Rightousness exalts a nation, but sin is a disgrace to any people" (NIV study Bible)

Now, I'm not here to start a religious debate, but I believe man reaps what he sows. If he sows racism, opression, human rights denial, and lack of sound ecological principles, he will reap what we are seeing today with our economies, ecology, corporate greed, out of control immigration, and crazy weather. Is that God doing it?...I don't think so; I think God is letting us do it to ourselves in order for us to learn the ultimate lesson in life: Love others as you love yourself.....

God's been napping since before we "busy man-un-kind" were born.

We've been doing it to ourselves that long. We're good at it.

We should give ourselves more credit, more often. "No one here gets out alive".

God isn't the prime mover. He's the one who comes along and sweeps the crumbs off the table and straightens up the salt & pepper before new customers arrive.

The real lesson: Learn to leave bigger tips if you want better service next time!
