Non-religious secular people who are Pro-Life

Why do too many people always assume that opposing abortion, being Pro-Life, is necessarily a religious stance ? ....... pro-abortion people usually spew that prejudice accompanied by all kinds of degrading and insulting remarks at the adress of religion in general and religious people in particular.

It is possible to be non-religious, secular, even liberal and at the same time choose the Pro-Life stance.
