Could he have been some kind of super secret operative the Army made out to be a loser getting discharged and sent into N Korea just to see what kind of operation their security service is running?
Or is he really just a total loser retard?

My guess is, he had a panic attack, bolted, and later regretted it.

He was dropped off at the airport, got on a bus to the border, joined a tourist group, then ran to N Korea and laughed as he was doing it.
Don't think it was a panic attack, but I agree he regretted it later.
He'll probably get a made-for TV movie about how he faced racism, etc in the military and was forced to run to NK.

Even North Korea doesn't want the stench of smelly Americans on their soil. And they don't even shower.

Disgusting people. Almost as disgusting as the Swiss.

He was obviously not a high-value hostage. NK was probably happy to unload him.
