I will only offer the advice to fill out the proper forms, file the proper complaint, get online and search for legal help that might be willing to help you for free, or at least for part of the settlement.
Then use the justice system for revenge. If the justice system fails you, and it sounds like it might, use the "civil" courts if they are available.
Use your mind. But don't go after this guy on your own. That will only get you in trouble.
You have a powerful weapon in your mind. Use it. Don't give up. Be willing to work for justice. It will take much effort, but worth the effort.
Write down exactly what happened. Find any and all witnesses. Get them to sign your statement of fact. Get help or even take it before the proper authorities stating your intent to prosecute and or sue for justice.
This will take a lot of work on your part. Are you up to it?
And then if all else fails? Become a radical. Find the political party that is fighting for reform of your social justice system in the direction you want it to go. Join them.

There's a good reason that the law is like that too, all muggers would say the victim had it coming for some past offense!
If you want to break the law its not generally a good idea to tell the police in advance.
