I feel it would be a good idea to actually await an actual proposal with full details before making up my mind. I don't have the luxury you do of simply saying "Obama's administration is proposing it; therefore, it must be a step toward taking away all our freedoms".
What a foolish thing to do!
In face of the imminent usurpation of freedom by the Obama administration you should never stop and think before opposing anything that comes out of it, Obama has an insatiable lust for power and control and this is only another brick in the wall. We should in fact be grateful that whodey has opened our eyes to the truth once again, its obvious that the desired goal of the administration is the destruction of the Republic. Just look at Rome's transition from republic to empire, its the exact same pattern, coincidence? I think not!

I don't think you actually believe the hysterical bile you pour out every day on these forums, so I think there's little chance of that.

If you actually believed that Democrats were aiming to take away all our freedoms AND that people have a right to resist this by force, then you'd be inclined to grab a weapon anyway.
Originally posted by no1marauderWhen did I act like a loud mouthed hysterical jerk? I simply am asking the why it is that the government wants to create an internet ID.

Jefferson once wrote the if we do not fight for limited government, it will disappear. So would you call him a loud mouthed jerk as well?

I can't possibly type enough LMFAO's to respond to that.
Originally posted by no1marauderI never said I was Thomas Jefferson, rather, I'm simply saying that we both believe in limited government to help secure our freedoms. Obviously you don't, unless you would care to expound on what your idea of limited government should be.

I'm also in favor of actually looking at the merits of proposals when they are actually made rather than jumping to hysterical conclusions like you do. As I said, I'll await the actual specifics of this one. But do shriek on about how this is part of the Obama administration's evil plans to take away all our freedoms.

Proving who they say they are? I think you may have hit it on the head. They want confirmation that what the things you do on the internet can be indisputably attached to your name. It has NOTHING to do with not wanting to memorize a myriad of passwords. All it is is an information tracking scheme.
because there already exists a non-governmental alternative to the proposed "governmental password manager".
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OpenID
OpenID is an open standard that describes how users can be authenticated in a decentralized manner, obviating the need for services to provide their own ad hoc systems and allowing users to consolidate their digital identities.[1]
The OpenID protocol does not rely on a central authority to authenticate a user's identity. Moreover, neither services nor the OpenID standard may mandate a specific means by which to authenticate users, allowing for approaches ranging from the common (such as passwords) to the novel (such as smart cards or biometrics).
The term OpenID may also refer to an ID as specified in the OpenID standard; these IDs take the form of a unique URL, and are managed by some 'OpenID provider' that handles authentication.[1]
OpenID authentication is now used and provided by several large websites. Providers include AOL, BBC,[2] Google,[3] IBM, MySpace, Orange, PayPal, VeriSign, LiveJournal, Yandex, Ustream and Yahoo!.[1][4][5][6]
