"To judge by the way his bluff has just been called over Israeli settlements in the West Bank, Barack Obama is not a natural poker player. His dealings with Iran suggest that he may be rather better at chess."

And the thread topic? Clinton isn't "playing chess" with Iran, while Obama is. Do you agree with Lexington's assessment?

Sanctions and worms and assassinations and air strikes may slow down their pursuit of WMD's but it will not prevent it in the end. The bottom line is, is the US and/or her allies willing to take out the regime once they attain their goals of WMD"s or being very close to it? Of course, doing so is preferrable with the rest of the international community on your side, as was the case with Desert Storm, however, will they leave the madmen in power once again only to have to go back in and take them out or will they just leave them be and wait for the mushroom cloud?

My guess is that Iran and her allies are working to further weaken the US and the rest of the international community so that they will not be willing or able to take them on militarily. Looking at the economic issues in the West, coupled with possible terrorist strikes, it is not hard to see how this might eventually come to fruition. So my question is, who is out waiting who?

There is no doubt about it, playing the world's policeman is hard to do if not impossible.

You are wrong. Hstory will look back at our President, as one cagey fellow. One who got a lot through although it is so very easily for you to close your eyes to that to treat your whimsey.

Don't act the idiot, I know you're smarter than that. You can really make yourself look like an ass sometimes.

It's just not right to try to humiliate anexisting president. I know you can in this country, but the office deserves respect. Maybe I'm getting too damn old.

We elect Presidents, we don't promote them to Godhood. If they screw up, they shouldn't be immune to criticism or even ridicule.

So far, we're still stuck in seemingly endless wars and the economy still sucks. Obama's job performance doesn't merit adulation.

On the tax cut issue, Obama raised the ante when he started with pocket jacks, i.e., a fairly strong popular sentiment against extending the tax cuts for the rich. Then a queen, king, ace flop (the election) scared the heck out of him. The GOP went all in by threatening to hold up things like the unemployment extension for the tax cuts. Rather than realize that the GOP is probably sitting on a 3-8 off pile of nothing and against the urging of the Dems, the President folded away his jacks and is probably now expecting us to believe that he won the hand.

Edit: He thought about playing for the gunshot straight, but then he remembered the Joe Manchin ad () and thought better of it.
