Did you object when Bush was blamed for Katrina?

The headline isn't exactly what the article says either.

Obama, “continues to blame anyone and everyone for the drought but himself,” reads a release from Boehner’s office posted online and distributed to reporters Monday.

Sounds as if his press release writer needs a brain transplant, but they were at least quick to produce another version which made sense...

The new version reads, “the president continues to blame anyone and everyone for failing to respond to the drought but himself.”

The new version reads better, and exposes the real truth, that Obama and crew are desperately attacking and making unsubstantiated accusations from tax evasion to murder.

See, Bush wasn't blamed for Katrina. He was blamed for a poor federal response to it. There's nothing in Boehner's statement about Obama's response to the drought.

His boss also needs one.

So what is wrong with Obama's response to the drought?

Nothing. No President can control the weather.

Here is part of the TPM follow-up.

President Obama urged members of Congress Monday to pass a farm bill intended to relieve farmers struggling in the midst of a debilitating drought. He also signed off on $170 million in drought aid.

That might all be a product of Obama’s guilty conscience, suggested an aide to House Speaker John Boehner, who wrote on the official speaker’s website Monday that not only should Obama do more – he should take personal responsibility for the natural disaster: “The president continues to blame anyone and everyone for the drought but himself.”

Following a round of Internet mockery: The post now includes changed language, and an update.

Bush was blamed for Katrina? Have you got a link that shows this?

There should be no Federal response at all to the drought if the TPers actually believed the laissez faire, Randian nonsense they claim they do.

He was blamed because he put one of his old frat buddies "Brownie" in charge and Brownie was completey inept.

If I remember correctly he was blamed by some for a poor response to the hurricane, not for the hurricane itself.

Pounding away at an obvious mistake in wording is pretty absurd. The Republicans did it this year with their assertions that Obama didn't know the Supreme Court could void unconstitutional legislation and with the brouhaha over his statements regarding businesses and infrastructure, but I see no reason to mimic that reprehensible behavior. We all know what the guy meant.

The difference is that in this case it's mostly for humor. The right wing is still pushing the "you didn't build that" out-of-context lie. Fortunately, people don't seem to be falling for it.

I think it's just a bit of political levity, that's all.
