The charge of widespread corruption is frequently leveled at Russia, and for good reason. However, what we call corruption in Russia is called corporate law here in the US. That is, the US has codified its culture of corruption, making it legal and therefore not "corruption" at all, you see. Until such time as the US comes to grips with its twin maladies of crony capitalism and oligarchic kleptocracy, it will continue to squander its resources on five-hundred-dollar hammers and fifty-dollar screws in the name of empire.
