“GOP Rep. Glenn Thompson of Pennsylvania attended his gay son's wedding last week, three days after opposing a bill in the US House that would enshrine protections for same-sex marriage into federal law.” It doesn’t get any more blatant than this.

One of the few times I voted Republican was for one
of our past Mayors, who's daughter was gay, and he
courageously supported her, much to The GOP's chagrin,
when an opponent in The Primary,
outed her as a smear.. He was a good man, beat the Dem,
and went on to be a good Mayor.

Its an interesting but not unique case study. Politicians are all terribly entrenched in their party line narratives or whatever, I think we can all agree on that. But when the reality hits, the consequences of actions, then we see humanity.

I wonder why the kid allowed the father to attend the wedding. I mean, who wants someone at their wedding who is actively opposed to it?

Madness.
Well, basically, the kid’s a better man than me. Kuddos for him. I’d onky have invited him to completely humiliate the bastard.

I think the kid just wanted his father there?

Probably. But why? I mean the man is “obviously” opposed to gay marriage.

Of course not.

Liz is WAY too Republican.

It's his other daughter, Mary.

Of course there are good Republicans. In spite of their party, not because of it.

It is a great mystery to me how a man like Thompson reconciles his politics with his family life. Or how a person who uses computers and flies in jet airplanes can believe the earth and the stars and all the galaxies were created in a flash about 6000 years ago. Extreme mental compartmentalization, I guess.
