Ok, so my idea that we should all consider donating organs we do not
need in favour of others has been shown useless in today's egotistical
world. But how about organ harvesting?
Erm, is that possible yet? You know, give some DNA to a laboratory
where they can grow your heart, liver, kidneys and so on and so forth,
and then when I for some reason has a failing heart they just go down to
the cellar or wherever they'd keep it and give me a new one. That'd be
great! π
Oh! Oh! Oh! And no need for animal suffering or anything. They can just
clone my body organs over and over and I can eat them as well as use
them (well, obviously not the same ones but). Not a single living thing
has to suffer to sustain me. Brilliant! I really should be world
president. π²π
Aaaaand, they can use the harvested organs to test new medicines and
the like (I obviously wouldn't be eating or using those, but that goes
without saying). Oh, I'm... I'm... I'm amazing. I friggin' rule, man! π

but seriously, i agree, those religious freaks that oppose this should be thrown of a cliff.
i didn't agree with forcing me to donate a kidney while i am still alive. my body is my own and i can do whatever i want with it. but when i die, so does my ownership over my body. so taking organs from a dead person shouldn't even be up for debate, it should just be done.
cloning organs might not be a good idea yet. again the religious freaks put a stop to it so the scientists cannot research it properly. and i wouldn't want a heart i wasn't absolutely positive it won't break to pieces
One problem .. it's my body, so screw you.
If this were law, here's what i'd do if I knew I were dying:
Somehow get to the roof of the hospital and splatter my ass all over the doctors parking lot. Aim for the biggest Benz
Scrape up whatever you can use Doc.
Or ... just start killin' the people that came up with this idea in the first place .. sorta make a donation.
Harvest that a-hole

sure you could splatter yourself and rend your body useless. kind of ending your pathetic miserable useless life with one more act of selfish, wasteful stupidity. but we are talking about decent people here. you don't even have to be kind to donate your organs after death, you just have to be practical: where you're going you won't need them.
so make a decent contribution to the debate or stop wasting time (the time i wasted trying to find any trace of intelligence in your post could have been better used)

Hmmm. Could work. Kind of strange, but ...
I still think that our lifespans are limited for a reason. Evolution needs to happen. We need to look kindly upon children not view them as competitors. Evolution could have given us enormous lifespans long ago if that was a good idea. I don't know of a physiological reason for a multicellular organism to die.
On the other hand, if death just results from your telomeres getting too short, would your cell-line outlast you? You might go through a lot of effort just to add a decade or so to your lifespan. And you would have never eaten a nice, juicy beefsteak.
It does give the phrase "eat your heart out" a bizarre twist, though.

Let me put it this way .. I carry a doners card in my wallet now, a DNR too. I do it by choice, not by force or threat of law.
I think it's the "right thing" to do.
If a law is put in to force me to donate organs, i'll fight it to the end and I promise you, if I find myself in a position where fools like you have control over what happens to my remains, i'll do something to thwart your goal. Nobody will determine what happens to my body but me if I have any say in the matter.
Idiots like you will turn more people against the idea then you'll bring to your position by logic.
Originally posted by jammerlogic kind of eludes you. once you're dead, that body of yours ceases to be your property. you cannot own anything if you're dead. so it should be used for the greater good. what in hell of a logic is this? you carry o donor's card because you don't have to but once it becomes mandatory for all to donate their organs after death, then you mess your body just to spite. it doesn't make sense. of course, some good might come out of this. if i ever want to kill you, i will forbid you to commit suicide. and then you will take care of the rest.

It's about self-determination to me. It's about ME making the decisions about what happens to ME. Once it's deemed mandatory by the State you can deal me out. Screw the greater good, I want my whole body fried ... extra chispy. Take me down to Jack in the Box and put me on a kangarooburger.
Better men than you have tried to kill me .. hell, better 12yr old kids. Anytime you get a wild hair up your ass, pick a number and get on line.
I carry a donor card because I choose to. I'll go the frenchfry route when it becomes your choice.
Originally posted by stockenNice in principal, though it's a lot more complex and very expensive in reality. The best we have using stem cells to make a heart is a valve. Livers are really, really easy to transplant etc, you don't even need stem cells, just enough healthy liver cells that you set aside and grow.

The main obstacle at the moment is finding the right developmental switches for each organ, which we're still a way off doing.
Originally posted by jammerso you make a choice now, but if someone else make a law for the same choice, you change your opinion although nothing has changed. if this is not stupidity, i don't know what is.
