Waiting to hear some response to the revelations in the "Palestinian Papers" produced by the Guardian and Al Jazeera. Maybe this is not the sort of news Americans get to see in their media. They show:
Palestinian negotiators offering huge concessions, probably far beyond anything their own people would tolerate, in a desparate effort to secure a peace settlement.
Israel taking everything and giving nothing in exchange, while continuing to pursue a racist "Jewish" state, excluding Palestinians including their own Palestinian citizens.
The millions of Palestinians in refugee camps and their "diaspora" being disgregarded by all parties, except for a lunatic suggestion from Rice to resettle them in Chile.
The Americans treating Palestinians with contempt and endorsing every Israeli position, regardless of any legal or moral criteria.
Contrary to all assertions, there has been no good reason for Israel and America to fail to achieve some settlement by now, except that of course they have no desire whatever to settle before establishing "facts on the ground" by force.

The optimistic view will hope these papers act as a wake-up call, jolting the US – exposed here as far from the even-handed, honest broker it claims to be – into pressing reset on its Middle East effort, beginning with a determination to exert proper pressure on Israel, pushing it to budge.
It goes without saying that in any wager between optimists and pessimists in the Middle East, the smart money is usually on the latter.
