13 people arrested. Wow, Paris is burning.

Edit - It' false that 100 people where involved in the violence. Everybody here was claiming that the police overreacted and the police just hyped up the numbers.

Certainly was burning last year....summer's on the way, it'll be interesting to see if there's a repeat. How many thousands of cars and buildings got set on fire?

How come the "M" word is never uttered by the press? If they're not going to report all the facts, what use are they?

All details aside, two thing worry me a lot:

1) About 100 youths clashed with police at the Gare du Nord station after a dispute over a train fare.

2) Rioters smashed windows and attacked vending machines and shops, after objecting to the treatment of a man arrested for jumping a ticket barrier.

I mean, for crying out loud... a dispute over a ticket growing into a riot! There is something terribly wrong in France.

Yeah, they don't know how to integrate their minority populations.

I thinks its more to do with being given a chance.

For example, I know a few arabs who are born in France and speak French. They are educated but never seem to be able to find jobs....unemployment is high in minorites....

Correct -- France's social contract is broken.

America has been a powerful force for integration...until it's leaders decided that it wasn't important for the new arrivals to learn English.

Well, seeing that only 10% of the Congolese population is islamic, the chances are that this has absolutely nothing to do with the M word at all. Isn't it?

That is a sweeping statement.. I take it as meaning no country, but my guess is that some countries deal with integration better than others, just as some races enjoy integration more than others.

I like to believe that peoples from overseas enjoy integrating NZ society.. we choose to celebrate ethnic diversity.

From the core, we have legislation which gives sensitivity to certain tribal based customs and rights to our native Maori (Tangatawhenua) population then legislation ensures all are treated equally.. For the most part our society works.

I really enjoy going out with friends from other cultures..a real treat. Attending ethnic celebrations and festivals..brilliant and standing by them if someone steps of toes comes naturally.

The French don't just riot regarding race matters they just love to riot...
Have a gander at this riot photographers pics...amazing http://www.flickr.com/photos/hughes_leglise/sets/72057594084915155/

It's their way of trading in their cars for a new one. Let it get burned.

Good point, Tirau...

Maybe the French need to surrender a couple of more times before
they learn the beauty of peace and harmony.
