your last warning, ill smack you, i will', meanwhile the kid is oblivious and carries on

The problem is that frankly, they ar ...[text shortened]... hat and keep pushing the limits. They have to at least believe you'll do what you say.
And that is just it, the type of discipline is not really the issue, is it? The issue is how is that type of discipline used? You can turn any form of discipline into abuse.

Yeah, and your incredible discipline shows that you were beaten to a pulp by your parents?

Again ... how is that relevant?

Were you spanked as a kid?
Yes. I knew where the lines were drawn and knew what would happen if I crossed them. In addition, I was told why I was being spanked and was never hit out of frustration and it was only done where I was well padded. This is the proper form of spanking. Random violence with no association other than fear of the individual is destructive and is abuse.

No, the type of discipline is an issue. I never said that it wasn't.

Spanking can in some ways be somewhat effective but there are more caveats to that then there are with other forms I think and more risks.

Should there be a Godwin's Rule: Obama corollary?

Because we are all swayed based upon what we think is right or what we have experienced.

Yeah.. the longer a thread on RHP goes on the probability that whodey makes it about Obama approaches 1.

Partially, but not completely.

It's also entirely possible that someone would be against spanking because they were spanked as a kid.

On avearage I bet it stems from abuse or from liberal brainwashing.

The sense that everything leads back to Obama, eventually?

But we are taught by statists to always revert to the authority and hope of the President. Our very existence and happiness depend on him.

You know, you might want to get help for these "statist" voices that you seem to only be hearing in your head.

A little bit of therapy can go a long way.
