This weekend he wigged out and called Social Security a ponzi scheme and a "monstrous lie." And despite his handlers telling reporters not to read his book, he stands by it.

Democrats are having a field day.

Ponzi scheme, hmmm. Not entirely accurate but true enough.

The young are being forced to pay into a system so that payments can be made to current recipients but will only receive payments themselves if people behind them are are forced to pay in as well.

Take a look at the Ratio of Social Security Covered Workers to Beneficiaries
http://www.ssa.gov/history/ratios.html

Scroll down and weep.

The "monstrous lie" part seems right.

SS is a ponzi scheme.

It is nice to see a politician actually state the truth.

Bernie Madoff was inspired by it, apparently.

The truth or ponzi schemes?

You are so predictably offended by positions Rick Perry, or other GOP candidates take, but I know you wouldn't vote for any of them in any case.

Notice to Kunsoo: GOP voters are looking for things that make you squirm.

By the way, SS does look much like a Ponzi scheme. If any insurance company proposed the exact same thing, everyone would be going to jail.

Bernie Madoff was a small time pretender compared to FDR.

Especially if the company threatened to put you in jail if you didn't comply.

Well, I guess there's always the chance that a nutcase like Perry will get into office and kill the thing. But that doesn't make it a lie.

Well, I really hope he doesn't back off that one. Maybe he can temper it down long enough to win the nomination, and then really pour it on in the general?

I feel sorry for his handlers. Well, no I don't, but you know what I mean.

Oh yeah. The threat to kill social security makes me squirm. Fortunately, it'll make 80 percent of America squirm as well.

I'm old and collecting now. More and more young people are just getting the picture. The government is broke. SS is worse than broke. How many of them are going to continue to be willing to pay for my check?

It's really not that complicated. If the fund is fed from the general fund until we get over the baby-boom hump - and we stop borrowing from the fund - it will be solvent for much longer than any of us will live.
