Authorities say a pit bull has killed a 32-year-old woman in her Pacifica, Calif., home.

Officers were called after Darla Napora's husband arrived home a little after noon Thursday and found her lying injured on the living room floor.

Pacifica Police Capt. Dave Bertini said officers found Napora suffering from major trauma and unresponsive. Emergency personnel pronounced her dead at the scene.

Greg Napora told police that the couple's adult dog had attacked his wife while he was at work.

A police spokesman said officers shot and killed the dog as it approached emergency workers trying to assist the woman.

Pit Bull Terriers are a mix of Mastiff (for size), Greyhound (for reflexes) and Terrier (for an aggressive, killer spirit AKA "gameness" ). They are an artificial variation of the dog species designed to be a savage gladiator by breeders. Should they be treated just as dogs, or are they deserving of special caution? Should the law get involved i.e. banning the dogs from places and the like?

Give me a break. People get killed by German Shepherds too but they don't get reported in the news as much because it doesn't sell. That would offend too many German Shepherd owners too.

Pit Bulls are a mix of terrier and old bulldogs. Other breeds may have been mixed in here or there but generally they are not mastiff or greyhound.

Old English Bulldogs are a cross between Greyhound and Mastiff. The newer "Bulldogs" have been crossed with Pug to give them that squat wrinkly look.

Sounds like you might lose your cat one of these days.

I think his fear of her is far too great for that. He has always given the other cats a very wide berth but avoids her at all cost.

Fight and flight are two expressions of the same drive. The cat might sneak up on the dog, or simply be asleep and the dog trips over her.

But maybe not. You seem confident.

I've seen too many confrentations between them. I think a lot of the trouble with pits lies in how they are trained by owners.
