An interesting poll came out recently, showing that a mere 26% of self-identified Republicans (with Fox News viewers and Trump voters scoring comparably) reject the ludicrous conspiracy theory that Bill Gates is engaged in a nefarious scheme to develop Covid-19 vaccines as a way to microchip the population for... reasons. Among the groups surveyed, 2016 Clinton voters were the least stupid, with 12% supporting the theory.

@kazetnagorra saidSo between 12 and 74% of Americans actually think Gates has an evil masterplan???

Holy crap.
How can that country still function?
Oh. Yeah. There is that...

According to a new Yahoo News/YouGov poll, 44 percent of Republicans believe that Bill Gates is plotting to use a mass COVID-19 vaccination campaign as a pretext to implant microchips in billions of people and monitor their movements
(and 19 percent of Democrats)
I don't see where the 26% comes from.

True or False: 'Bill Gates wants to use a mass vaccination campaign against Covid-19 to implant microchips in people that would be used to track people with a digital ID'
Republicans: True 44% Not Sure 31% False 26%
Voted for Hillary Clinton: True 12% Not Sure 25% False 63%

Oh. Yeah. There is that...
30% US Identify as Republican
31% US Identify as Democrat
36 % US Independent
3% US Other
That implies at least, 26% of US believes there is some Gates/Government conspiracy.
(0.74)*(0.30) + (0.12)(0.31) = 26%
But alas, it turns out top be a misleading stat. They compare Republicans to people who voted for Clinton. Not Republicans to Democrats.
They add the "True" and "Not Sure" together for the Republican Data. Leading one to incorrectly infer 74% Republican said "True". This is Manipulation.
Then they only Report the 12% of Voters of Clinton who said "True", but Leave out the "Not Sure" for that Group. This is a Manipulation.
Further, what is implied is that Clinton Voter = Democrat.
"In contrast, just 19 percent of Democrats believe the same spurious narrative about the Microsoft founder and public-health philanthropist."
So a larger portion 19% of Democrats answered with True, not 12%. They leave out the "Not Sure". This is a Manipulation.
@kazetnagorra saidI didn't read it... so basically KazetTheGreat was manipulating an already manipulated stat reported by yahoo, to further increase the gap. That is a sneaky comparison. Republicans vs "people" who voted for Clinton.

@sh76 saidWhat would you answer if asked such a "stupid" question?
Do people really take stupid poll questions seriously?
@joe-shmo saidThe article also mentions Democrats, which do not score as well as Clinton voters though not with a huge difference (Trump voters are also mentioned, which score about the same as Republicans; Fox News viewers score worst). I chose to mention Clinton voters specifically as I figured that the fact that they scored best out of the surveyed groups would trigger some of the fragile snowflakes in this forum, and it seems that it did, to my moderate amusement.

Nothing was "manipulated" by me or the pollsters, people were simply asked a question and they responded.
@kazetnagorra saidI really don't know.

If someone intruded into my day to ask me if the Flying Spaghetti Monster had touched me with his noodly appendage, I'd absolutely consider playing along and answering yes.
@sh76 saidI don't believe you are the kind of person to lie to people who are just doing their job. The conspiracy theory is ridiculous, that a lot of people believe it is serious.

I know it's anectodal, but I know a lot of Republicans and I've never met someone who believes the Bill Gates COVID conspiracy theory.
I guess you hang around mostly with the 26-percenters.

Then you... "KazetTheGreat" armed with your apparently "wasted" PhD comes along and summarizes with the widest gap possible! Another Manipulation! You are a truly wretched human being...
