Bush and Olmert want to "bolster" Abbas, they say, calling him "calling him a moderate voice and the only true leader of the Palestinian people."

http://www.iht.com/articles/ap/2007/06/19/america/NA-GEN-US-Mideast.php

So Bush and Olmert are together going to decide who the Palestinian President is -- and as their puppet they choose...Abbas!

If you were President of a nation of Arabs, wouldn't you just be SO pleased that Bush was now supporting you? Wouldn't that be the kiss of death among your constituency?

Don't you think it's ironic that a people who supported terrorism and suicide bombing are getting leaders who make the Taliban look like Boy Scouts? A better question is: Should they be surprised they got the leaders they deserve?

I get a pain in my tits just watching the news of this one. Never mind reading the trailer-trash responses I have to put up with on this site.

Another classic is that Israel isn't going to free-up Palestinian tax money...until the Palestinians hand them a plan for spending it!
And our governments support this!

Hell, even the nazis were more bloody subtle.

Don't you think that calling people trailer trash is a bit over the top? I pegged you as a good natured rabble rouser, not a biggoted a**hat.

The fact that we back Mazen doesn't seem like that big of a deal.

What am I missing here? He's the president, he had the power to dissolve the government and outlaw Hamas. And this point, there is no other person to deal with that can affect any change. (his ability is debateable)

Why is backing Abbas the wrong thing to do? We've been catching heck for not doing it and now we catch for doing it. Does that seem a bit off to anyone else?

Oh believe me, I'm so full of hate I make Darth Vader look like bloody Mother Theresa.

And I am biggoted. Severely so. Although I don't discriminate in my bigotry, I hate everyone equally.

Because Hamas is the democratically elected government.
It's not for other nations to bring a country to its knees, support the opposition (Fatah IS the opposition) and create regime change.

Besides the fact that Fatah did squat-diddley while they were in power and this is just another blatant move to bend the Palestinians over for a jolly good rodgering, it's also immoral.

"Your enemy's enemy isn't always your friend." I keep telling you yanks this, and for some reason, although you've managed to create Iran, Saddam and the Taliban, it just doesn't seem to seep through.

What the hell has to happen for you to understand?

Israel should give the Palestinians the money that's due to them.
Europe should support any elected government, because not doing so is contra-productive.
And I couldn't give a rat's arse about what the US does, it's a lost empire anyways.

So you're saying that Europe should fund a party that kills its political opposition?

Uh... yeah...
Like the US isn't guilty of any such matters? Or England. Or France. Or Germany. Or Russia.

Diplomacy is a long term thing. The lack of diplomacy is selling OUR (and your) rights down the drain.
