Two of the very last of the people who belonged to a generation which secured the blessings of liberty passed away just these last few days: Betty Webb and Paddy Hemingway. Please read their obituaries (linked below) and reflect on the fact that Donald Trump has never known existential angst. Donald 'Bone Spurs' Trump knows nothing about actually fighting for liberty; he takes liberty (his own, naturally) as if it were manna from heaven, as if he did not need to secure anyone else's liberty (e.g., Ukrainians' ) in order to keep his own. Everything Trump stands for is pampered entitlement, unabashed gimme! gimme! gimme! mentality. Standing should-to-shoulder with allies is totally unknown to him; he just wants to see a balance sheet (which country paid its 'dues', which country pays 'tariffs' ). "America First!" was not what FDR said to occupied France. Truman did not ask any country to pay anything back; on the contrary, does "Marshall Plan" mean anything to anybody here? America has more than enough surplus resources to help those countries which are still struggling to establish minimum conditions for good governance.

Donald Trump is erasing America's history by 'sanitizing' the U.S. archives (even the Smithsonian Institution) of the contributions women, Native Americans, and Blacks made to America's rise to primacy on the world stage. This is straight out of Orwell's 1984: “Who controls the past controls the future. Who controls the present controls the past.”

quote:

across government platforms, DOGE hacks have been conducting a purge of epic proportions to remove thousands of pages of online content highlighting the contributions of Native Americans, African Americans, and other historically marginalized groups—including women and members of the LGBTQ+ community—who faithfully served this nation. In this way, the original theft of land, liberty, labor, and voice suffered by these communities over the centuries is compounded with a present-day theft of memory. And memory matters.

Who is deemed worthy of remembrance correlates directly to who is allowed to feel they belong, who is protected, and who has rights.

What we’re witnessing today is a digital book burning. A massive obfuscation effort. An unconscionable falsification of the historical record aimed at re-centering white, male, cis-gendered figures as the sole agents of progress and national greatness. In this fictionalized narrative, oppression and exclusion never happened, or if any historical harms occurred, their impact was short-lived and has been effectively addressed. Today, the thinking goes, no one is owed anything based on their identity, because no identity has been marginalized. There’s nothing our institutions must atone or correct for. Onward. Slash and burn. Colonize. Exploit. Call it Manifest Destiny. Then scrub the record, and repeat.

As if our collective memory was that short.

end quote

Listen to the people who survived the holocaust -- they say Trump sounds just like Goebbels, same tone of voice, same affected style of speech, same appeal to fear of 'the other', same torrent of lies. My wife's mother, who died just this last Feb., still remembered the sound of Josef Goebbels' voice from the radio.

When the last of the people who were actually there are dead, we will truly have only our archival material to go on. Those who let the erasure of history continue are doomed to lose their own liberty.

Two obituaries worth reading and digesting, lest we forget:

Lost me when he suggests that Trump should not be concerned what other countries ‘paid their dues, which country pays tariffs’
Kamala and/or Biden would not, today, have a semblance of understanding regarding tariffs and dues. Worse, they would not care.
So this begs the question for moon bus. Should Trump care about tariffs and dues paid by other countries for any reason whatsoever …..should he care?
Can’t wait for the answer on this one.
And why does he mention Orwell, a book of fiction? It has nothing to do with anything. Why does he suggest that Trump not put America first? Why does he suggest that we use our resources to cover other countries? We are $36 trillion in debt
Like I said, I can’t wait for him to answer these questions… be prepared, however, that libs will leave you hanging with their answers… As they never are answers.

Said a bunch of Trump-loving white guys. Their Orange Jesus can do no wrong. Meanwhile, people of color, non-binary, women and LGBTQ+ pay the price, while whites enjoy protected status, all the while claiming they are the oppressed and abused. Disgusting.

Well done.

I was going to write about this disgusting revisionist history being re-written now, but you've laid it out well enough that anyone can see what's actually going on.

Erasing much of the history the Smithsonian museums have accumulated is just the beginning.

Will America be able to survive four long, hard years of this? Four years is half an eternity for school-age children. Will they be able to remember when we held America's real history sacred? Are we growing a new crop of stupid, racist white people? Only time will tell, but I have a feeling it won't be pretty.

A single generation can wreak so much damage that it takes several more to put it right again, if at all. Anyone who doubts that should live in Germany for ten years -- 12 years of the Nazi regime followed by 40 of Soviet communism very nearly ruined Germany. The consequences are still clearly visible in the rise of the AfD in the former communist part of the country, and how difficult it is for the western parts to integrate the former east. Germans even today still speak of 'the wall in the head.' I fear there will be a similar 'wall in the head' of Americans long after Trump is out of office.

So we know that Echnaton's reign was to be cut from history. That didn't work. Will rewriting history work today better?

This is not factual at all. Basically ..
- Trump said one thing in the EO
- Atlantic Black Box twisted the EO and added to it for dramatic effect
- You then added your own piece likening these events to the holocaust.

In the EO - RESTORING TRUTH AND SANITY TO AMERICAN HISTORY, Trump simply stated that his aim was to undo what happened in the past 10 years where American History was distorted and rewritten, mostly by the black community to create divisions in American society.

There is also no indication that there is any ... .. a purge of epic proportions to remove thousands of pages of online content highlighting the contributions of Native Americans, African Americans, and other historically marginalized groups—including women and members of the LGBTQ+ community—who faithfully served this nation.

This is the nonsense that Atlantic Black Box is promoting. If there is such evidence of .. digital book burning.. please provide a link.

That which we have here is an intellectual and philosophical divide which will never be crossed, as other replies to your thoughtful post amply demonstrate. Supporters of Donald Trump know full well that he lies, habitually, that he is a convicted felon, but it doesn't matter. They can now see first - hand the results of his economic 'policies' but it doesn't matter. There's no rational, objective thought, there is now only what Donald Trump says, and does, which must be right because Donald Trump has said and done them. The truth to such people no longer matters, a lesson which will be passed on to future generations, unless somehow the rot stops now, otherwise the death throes of a dying nation will be all that there will be to inherit.

This is the weird, sick, twisted, revisionist history both he and you want to disseminate as "truth".

It just ain't true.
