Trump abruptly cancels signing of bipartisan bill on affordable housing

President Donald Trump abruptly canceled an event to sign a bipartisan affordable-housing bill Wednesday, announcing the ceremony was off as he fumed about the Senate not passing his bill to impose new rules on elections.

An hour and a half before he was due to sign the bill at the Capitol at noon, the president caught lawmakers and some staff by surprise, declaring on social media that a news conference and signing ceremony was “hereby cancelled until such a time as we pass the desperately needed SAVE AMERICA ACT, which I consider to be a National Emergency.”

The announcement came as House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-Louisiana) and other House GOP leaders were touting the housing bill at a news conference, the stage set for the president in the National Statuary Hall — including a table and chair to sign the legislation.

The housing bill was set to be a rare bipartisan policy accomplishment for the president touching on an issue that has dogged him in polling ahead of the midterms: addressing Americans’ affordability concerns.

Keep in mind, Trump's own Attorney General said there was no proof of significant voter fraud; 60 courts threw out Trump's claims of voter fraud, including the Supreme Court.

So he's refusing to sign a bipartisan bill for affordable housing unless a bill is passed for a problem that doesn't exist.

@vivify

Oh, he's just having a hissy fit bc the Senate curtailed his war powers.

It'll pass. Someday. Maybe after he's gone.

So we have to wait another 2 years, possibly more if Vance gets elected, for an affordable housing bill to pass? All while young people can't afford homes and prices keep skyrocketing?

The Road To Housing Act was passed by a margin of 85-5. That's damn near unfathomable in a government that's so divided on every issue. But not even a bill passed by a Republican-controlled Congress matters to this president.

Correct. Nothing matters to the Donald except the Donald. He's power-mad. If he can't have it his way, he'll ruin it for everyone. Anyone who doubts that he would literally burn down democracy in a fit of pique, has misunderestimated how infantile he is.

Mitch McConnell made that mistake at the first impeachment, saying that the House's impeachment alone would chastize Trump and make him more cautious in future, so there was no need for the Senate to confirm the impeachment; exactly the opposite has occurred: the more congress lets him get away with, the more he engages in executive over-reach and violates the separation of powers. As far as Trump is concerned, the DoJ is his own private rottweiler, and Congress is his equivalent of Xi's rubber-stamp admiration society.

That was said just for the press to an outraged nation. There was no sincerity behind those words.

Just like when he blocked Obama's SCOTUS choice for a reason he ignored for Trump.

McConnell is a coward. And senile. He should have been booted out of Congress ten years ago.

Moonbus and Vivify are oblivious to the people that are entering our country with the intent of changing our country to be like they are..

The housing bill passed both houses of congress by overwhelming margins. It stands to reason, therefore, that if Trump vetoes the bill, then congress can override the veto!

Why are senators even discussing this with the manchild-in-chief? Just do it. It's a veto-proof majority.

are you talking about this?

there is another factor at play here
it's hiding well, even in plain sight
you see, trump wants badly to have the project 2025 agenda to succeed
having never again have a democrat elected to power
he doesn't want anyone to vote
he's said as much, many times, and he does not care how many folks die
EVEN THE MAGA
he just doesn't give a damn about anything
but he's all good with having nobody realize that that is right at the tippy top of his mind
the save act is an important part of that agenda
it's the next thing on the list to get done
and he will do anything in his power to distract folks from understanding just how important to trump that 2025 agenda is

lie, cheat, and steal
and then point fingers alleging the same of anyone in his way

housing?
that would be great for americans
but it ain't the most important thing

"The Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas has published a new research paper that shows shocking findings about the effects of illegal immigration on the housing market. The paper provided the first systematic empirical analysis of the economic effects of the Biden administration’s open borders policies.

New administrative microdata showed illegal immigration caused a 30% increase in housing prices and a 20% increase in rent prices. Illegal aliens acted as a market shock, raising prices by reducing the supply of housing, with little to no increase in the housing supply working to balance the demand increase. As millions of illegals entered the country under the Biden administration, they increased demand for already-limited housing. Many also received taxpayer-funded assistance, putting additional pressure on the market. The result was greater housing scarcity and higher rents and home prices.

The research also found that illegal immigration acted as a positive labor supply shock, meaning that the illegal immigrants increased the number of people available to hire. This, of course, benefited the corporations hiring them, but overall hurt American workers by decreasing wages. "
