"They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old;
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them."
To the fallen, not that we should glorify their deeds in battle, but that we should remember their sacrifice on the altar of freedom.
Lest we forget.
Originally posted by kmax87Its probably not a debate topic, but in remembering the fallen diggers of WW1, as Australians due on ANZAC day we should maybe remember that they almost universally rejected the glorification of war. Those that returned anyway. They had all hoped that this would be the war that would end all wars and for many this was reason enough to willingly offer ones self up so that peace for all time could ensue. I wonder if some of those diggers are turning in their graves to see how their memory and their sacrifice has almost become a recruitment banner for war.
Lest we forget.
