So armed with this data, why would anyone vote Republican?

Originally posted by SMSBear716I have seen Republicans try to compare Obama with Carter. Both are "nice guys" and very intelligent, however, Carter was by most counts a horrible President.

In addition, I used to hear Republicans say that we should be wary of Democrat Presidents because they seemed to always get us in a war. They would point to WW1, WW2, Vietnam, etc., however, the Bush boys broke that trend. Who knows, maybe McCain will break this economic trend as well?
Originally posted by CliffLandinNixon was really a Democrat if you ask most Republicans today, or at least a RINO, as was McCain until he selected Palin.

If you ask a true liberal, she'll tell you that Clinton was a conservative with strong Republican leanings. Plus he was a pig, or as HST puts it, "a small-time punk with bad habits" ( Better than Sex )
Originally posted by treetalkLook up Phil Gramm. Add "foreclosure" to your search. It may interest you that, while officially out of McCain's campaign, many suspect that he still has McCain's "financial ear."
So it's Clinton's fault the economy is in a mess now?
Or are you one of the few who think everytthing is still fine?

Given the mess that Reagan inherited from Carter, you'd have to be an incredible critic to claim that Reagan drove our economy into the crapper. If anything he got us OUT of the crapper and lead a period of massive economic growth--very arguably we've been in a period of growth for the last 27 years due in part to the lower taxes of Reaganomics.

The stagflation that brought Carter down was brought under control by his actions--appointing Volker--while Reagan reaped the benefits of low inflation.
Reagan's tax cuts are a myth. The lonf period of prosperity that both Reagan's fans and Clinton's cheerleaders attribute to them is a consequence of the actions of neither. Rather, it is a consequence of the revolution in technology that gave us Red Hot Pawn (computers, internet, etc.) and of the outsourcing of jobs that Republicans and Democrats both criticize in one breath while advancing in the other. Outsourcing keeps prices low and breaks the backs of unions. All Reagan's tax breaks did was enhance the X-Mas bonuses and salaries of the transnational execs that eliminate jobs for working Americans.

The clear result of 8 years of Republicans.
