Washington state's primary laws have changed frequently over the past several years. This year candidates declared party preference and the political parties themselves had no control over the process.

The leading Republican candidate for governor declared his party preference as GOP, and now the Democrats are suing him, claiming he attempted to mislead voters.

There was a time that anyone confused over such terms would be too embarrassed to mention it. These days ignorance is bliss, and even a source of personal pride.

The fact that he used the phrase "GOP Party" is suggestive. Either

- he doesn't know what GOP stands for (Grand Old Party)
- he doesn't know what 'redundancy' is or why to avoid it
- he wanted to be sly and say he was with the GOP, but thought some people would not know that that was a political party, so added the world 'Party'

GOP is an acronym for a nickname, not the official party name. Democrats should win this one hands down.

Is the Republican Party truly a damaged brand that people are trying to run from?

i wouldnt sue them on it for these reasons. in the washington state voters manual rossi (who lost the closest race in US history) is now in the "grand old party party" as it states. the only other difference this time is he is still whining about the loss last time, so hes now going to lose by a lot more, and i think its quite funny 🙂

Why do you assume that he's going to lose by a lot more this time? Perhaps an increase in King county's turnout (up from 100.4% turnout in 2004 to perhaps 200 or 300 or 400% turnout this time)? The only way Ms. G won last time was with wholesale ballot box stuffing. You think that's going to fly another time?

well hes going to lose by a lot more as its really hard to see it being closer than last time 😛

but yes, cheating couldve happened. seems like its the only thing thats happens these days. but our state seems to be one of the strongest dem states not in new england, and i think hes now going up against gregoire who is the incumbent this time. rossi could comeback, but playing the pity-me card doesnt seem to be working in my book.. (i mean it would be the logical thing to do if something was stolen from you) if you look at florida 2000 which was robbed, and then there was huge complaining and then in 04 it ended up going to bush by 5 percent which was huge.

It doesn't matter if the democrats win or not. This choice was a political disaster! They are showing that they are scared of losing the election by using this in case that happens... people will catch onto that.
