Do or do not the vast majority of democrat lemmings support the President moon?
Partisan politics is alive and well moon.

$ Cost of the detained prisoners
At Guantanamo = $900,000 per prisoner per year
If transferred to max security federal prison = $65,000 per prisoner per year
If transferred to avg security federal prison = $30,000 per prisoner per year
Look at it as a stimulus package for the prison industry. Think of all the jobs that would be lost if they closed it down moon.
Is that what you want?
The problem here is, if they close it down, where will they ship all the conservatives like me? :'(
Originally posted by moon1969Why didn't Obama shut it down in the first two years of the first term, when he had majorities in the House and Senate? Republican opposition was meaningless then, but he didn't do it. Why?

Both of you seem to dodge the point that if the Republicans had voted yes on the amendment, we would be in the process of closing Guantanamo.
Do you understand that? That the Democrats voted yes on the amendment to close Guantanamo, that the President signs the NDAA, but the Republicans reject the amendment.
Do you understand that? We could be in the process of closing Guantanamo right now if the Republicans had voted yes. The Democrats voted yes.
And it would be very difficult to close Guantanamo and transfer the prisoners to federal prison without funding from the House, which the Republicans have made clear they would not provide such funding.
No matter what happened in the past, right now do you want Guantanamo closed? Did you vote for one of the Republicans in the House who voted against the amendment to close Guantanamo?
Originally posted by moon1969You are dodging the fact that Obama didn't require a single Republican vote if he really wanted to close Gitmo.

By the way, Obama has tried to make preparations for that without Congress, put can't make it happen until get enough Republican votes.
Do you understand that?

"President Obama in 2009 signed an executive order to close the U.S. detention camp at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. Six months into the new administration, a Democratically controlled Congress passed legislation that prevented the president from moving any Guantanamo detainee into the U.S. or to other countries."

Why don't you just provide me with your source of information like you should have done long ago when you failed to respond to no1maurader's last post on my "closing guantanamo" thread?
Are you dumb, lazy or just intent on being a major league jerk?

In 2009, the Senate voted 90-6 in bipartisan fashion, to block the president’s efforts at closing the camp. Obama had signed an order seeking to close the detention center, but the Senate’s vote denied the administration the $80 million needed to fund the closure.
