Most of the suggestions I have read in this thread addressed antiquated issues that in no way represent the challenges that the future has in store for us. We lack the will to act collectively at a time when our real problems can only be solved by coordinated action. "Crying won't help you, praying won't do you no good." Only a strong and united civilization can expect to scramble from the hole we've been digging for 50 years. It will not happen (mainly because compromise and equivocation are not organizing principles that can offer a reason to shoulder that burden.) Some have the instinct to protect what they have - so every hand that reaches out to them they see as a grasping hand. Some have nothing to protect - so they feel a slapping hand swinging from the right or the left. So very few even offer a hand. As a species we might find the will to endure - if it does not fall solely to this generation. If it does I wouldn't bet on it.

Lol, if I remember it right, that was our Company Enviromental Policy.

Or if I want to be a hunter I can apply for a hunting license and get a hunting rifle (not much to hunt for though, with 90%-ish of the surface area being urbanized or agriculture).
Just make it a licensing procedure -- with criminal behavior and certain mental illnesses as disqualifiers.

That company left the good old USA in August of 2008, leaving 1400 people behind. Moved on to greener fields of China.
You are right on the money, human greed is the downfall. Everyone wants what the other has, and thinks it should be given to them. can't pay for that home, wife has to work? Well hold on, we're working on a way to get you back on track, every american deserves the dream.

A lot of posters here seem to agree that a move away from two party politics, and the emergence of a 'Third Party', would be a healthy development in U.S. political culture. However, such a "party" (or a movement - or political insurgency - or whatever) could be dragged in various political and/or ideological directions - or could somehow eschew ideology altoget ...[text shortened]... manifestos (stealing each others' ideas is perfectly permissible), and then have a vote.
2. Implement a system whereby states with more than one Representative in the House would elect them on the basis of proportional representation.
3. Implement a universal, single payer national health care plan.
4. Cut defense spending by at least 50%.
5. Institute a Bureau of Worker Ownership within the Department of Labor to encourage and promote worker ownership of businesses, whether that be in the form of aiding worker owned start-up companies or transitioning existing capitalist firms into worker owned ones.
6. Repeal the Taft-Hartley Act. Reinstate the Glass-Steagall Act. Withdraw the US from NAFTA.
7. Legalize most drugs and prostitution and tax them.
8. Raise all taxes on the wealthy to whatever their highest rate in US history has been.
9. Introduce stiff penalties on companies that send production out of the country and close loopholes for corporations that avoid taxes through the maintenance of offshore headquarters.
10. Make Election Day a national holiday. All non-essential businesses and services would be closed that day.

Originally posted by rwingettSo you enjoy the US government stealing from Social Security? I just don't get why those on the left are not enraged by this. In addition, aside from campaign reform, where is the reform for the likes of people like Ben Nelson? Where is the outrage that Obama promised to end earmarks?

As far as drugs and prostitution go, this would put an end to capitalism in the US. Then lets see how the economy tanks. LOL.
