Term limits are kind of the conservative "nanny state" approach to trying to save the people from themselves. If the people don't want a Congressman in there for more than 18 years, they'll vote him out. There's no such option for a Supreme Court Justice.
God forbid we have the conservative nanny state. Only the left winged nanny state will do.

I change my mind. No term limits for the Supremes!! 😠

Well, it is odd how conservatives seem to have complete faith in people with power to do the right thing, but they're so afraid of the little guy they have to deprive the electorate with choices. I guess it's wrapped up in the centuries old assumption that material fortune is the product of virtue.

I don't understand why conservatives call themselves conservatives, seeing as they, as much as liberals (and perhaps more so), are trying to build a world that never before existed.

They are trying to conserve values as well as a system, but yes, you have a point.

For the little guy who elected "W" twice and potentially Obama twice I have little faith. Of course, I don't really blame the little guy that much because the whole system is rigged. You have a two party monopoly and even if someone wins the popular vote in their party, like Hilliary, they pick someone else instead......that is from amongst their hand picked chosen ones. Then you get elected officials in their like Dirty Harry who has a favorable poll of about 9% before the election but some how gets reelected anyway.

Miracles never cease, do they?

So the voters turn to the Democrats after 8 years of "W" in protest and then turn to the GOP in 2010 after only a couple of years of Obama. Isn't it obvious they have no where to turn? What this boils down to is that the establishment wants the right to flick out Supremes they no longer care for, much like FDR did during the court packing scheme to pass his beloved New Deal.

Damn those little people for voting the wrong way!

Reading the very much liberal New Yorker on a regular basis, I saw the title "Rick Perry's Good Idea" and expected snark. And there was a little bit, mostly about his impossible-to-satire failed campaign. But the "good idea" referenced in the title really does seem like a good idea, at least given the thought I've put into it so far. There are probably dow of making decisions which will last and therefor less partisan.

What to you think?
Not a bad idea. Frankly I think the Supreme court does a good job 98% of the time, but this idea has merit.

I agree, but the 2 percent are the cases we read about for decades.
