Texas state senator Wendy Davis is a local politician not known nationally but is a true American hero.

Wendy Davis to headline EMILY’s List event in San Francisco
Rick Perry isn’t the only Texas politician to try to score political points in California.
Democratic State Sen. Wendy Davis will headline a San Francisco event next Friday afternoon sponsored by EMILY’S List, an organization dedicated to raising campaign cash for pro-choice Democrats.
The program at SF’s [] Fairmont Hotel — entitled “Strength in Numbers: Women Leading the Way” — features three rising stars among Democratic women. Davis, who rocketed to national fame with her abo*rtion filibuster in June, will be joined by Sandra Fluke, the Georgetown law student who became a national celebrity when Rush Limbaugh labeled her a "sl*ut" and first-term Hawaii Rep. Tulsi Gabbard, one of two female combat veterans elected in 2012 and the first Hindu Americans ever to serve in Congress.
The event is billed as a strategy discussion on how to send more women to Washington and invest in women leaders across the U.S.
Davis, a Fort Worth Democrat, could be one of the top EMILY’S list recruits for 2014 if she decides to run for governor of Texas. She has increased her national profile recently with a nationally televised address at the National Press Club and two fundraising events in the nation’s capital.
In announcing the program yesterday, EMILY’S List declared that Davis “is not only one of the most talked about public officials but also one of the most admired.”
Here’s the video of Davis’ appearance at the National Press Club:
