What wasn't legal was for the two felons he shot to be carrying concealed weapons.
Did you know one of them did 15 years in prison? For raping a little girl, among other things.

Usually minors couldn't carry freakin AR-15 but a genius figured that an ar-15 in the hands of a stupid child is super ok as long as the length of the barell is longer than an arbitrary number of centimetres (rendering the previous law useless).

Amerika. Where they drop charges (eventually) when no actual law is broken and don't convict someone just because some stranger doesn't like the choices he's made.

There are probably thousands of gun laws in the country where barrel length affects the rules. Also there are thousands of knife laws where an "arbitrary" knife length affects the rules. There are drone laws where an "arbitrary" weight affects the rules.

Only two gun laws concerning barrel length I am aware of.
Rifles must have at least a 16 inch barrel and shotguns must have an 18 inch barrel or longer.
