Virtually everyone owns some stock in something if you include mutual funds and retirement account money. Also, how would you define politician? Are you including town council members? sherrifs? municipal judges? State Senators? Congress ...[text shortened]... not the White House, Joe Biden's stupid comment about not taking the subway notwithstanding.
It's an enormous stretch for sure.

We could prohibit politicians from owning shares. Just compensate them with tax revenue or a very generous pension. They could also hold mutual funds without a conflict of interest.

The hysteria over avian flu a few years ago and swine flu today has some very interesting ramifications. Namely that certain people are making a killing off of it.

The primary drug used to treat these outbreaks has been Tamiflu, developed by Gilead Sciences and marketed by Hofmann La Roche, Ltd. Gilead was started in 1987. In 1988 Donald Rumsfeld joined ...[text shortened]... is swine flu, where, once again, Tamiflu is raking in ever greater profits for stockholders.
The sooner we own the parasitic drug companies the better.

I agree. Everything to do with the health sector should be nationalized.

Do you know, do the Cubans produce equivelant anti-virals?

Aha, so that's why there is so much ridiculous over-reaction to bird and Swine Flu.
I did wonder, thanks for clarifying that!

That's an interesting angle.
Considering the amount of dead in Mexico by this swine flu (less than who have died in the same period in Mexico of regular flu), I find it quite believable that someone's deliberately pushing this issue for financial gain.

About 2000 have died in a meningitis outbreak in recent weeks.

Practically zero coverage.

It was in Africa.

*yawn*

The alert status is justified by the potential mortality of the epidemic, not by the effective death toll.

I was talking about this with someone today ... I suppose the meningitis outbreak is relatively contained -- well, it covers three African countries, but few, if any, of the victims are likely to be walking around international airports anytime soon ... No panic, no interest.

talking with my rheumatologist today -- he spent some years running programs on the Navajo reservatio, so we share some interests in common -- asked him about the Rumsfeld angle on the avian flu and he came back with this:

the firm that produces the most vaccine for flu is Baxter -- a shipment of vaccine to Europe some years back turned up containing live avian flu mixed in with the vaccine for a different strain.

now, he tells me, the flu strains missing from the Ft Detrick labs are swine flu.

he thinks the drug companies and vaccine producers are seeding the fllu

Corruption in Washington? God forbid!! I thought once those evil Republicans were out of office the US would enter a period of peaceful utopia. No doubt, its those Democrats who are to conservative who are at the heart of our problems. LOL.

So it's not swine flu? And I'm getting lost. Is this about Rumsfeld and Tamiflu, Baxter or a linear combination of both?

I love to play Six Degrees of Separation. I'm sure we can get to Rothschild while we're at it. Isn't Rumsfeld at Bildeberg, who want to exterminate most of the world's population? Why isn't uzless at this like a rabid dog?

It's about Rumsfeld flu, a sort of viral delirium that sends you spinning into an eternal cycle of conspiracy and counter-conspiracy, liberally larded with flu jabs, powders, multivitamins, and all the other good things that keep Caesar happy.
