Russian newspaper seeks investigation into 'attack' with chemical substance

MOSCOW (Reuters) - A Russian newspaper that has exposed official corruption and human rights abuses urged Moscow city authorities on Tuesday to investigate what it said was an attack on its offices with a chemical substance.

Novaya Gazeta, whose reporters have been subjected to numerous attacks since it was founded after the Soviet Union collapsed, reported a foul chemical smell at its Moscow editorial offices on Monday, which it described as a deliberate attack. No one was reported hurt..

It's time the UN gets off its duff and *does* something.

It is my opinion, to be sure, but I feel the people at the root of the problem are
displaced Communists from the former KGB, the GRU, and/or the Soviet military.

But that's a story for another thread. 🙂

If someone shoots off 200 rounds in a drive-by and nobody is hurt, are you being foolish if you call the police?

They are talking about an possible attack involving a WOMD, for god's sake. You haven't seen enough ??

Russia has a long and sordid history under Putin of being suspected of using chemical weapons on its own people.
Weren't inspectors sent in to Iraq and Syria when these same suspicions erupted in those countries?

How long would you suggest waiting?

If you don't like my suggestion, that's fine. You just don't have to be a b-hole about it.

I must say, I do agree with Biden's opinion, but damm! - should he be going public with it? What a quagmire.

Russia Erupts in Fury Over Biden’s Calling Putin a Killer - dnyuz.com

MOSCOW — Russia recalled its ambassador to the United States and unleashed a storm of derision aimed at President Biden after he said in a television interview that he thought President Vladimir V. Putin was a killer.

Russia’s Foreign Ministry said late Wednesday that it had summoned its envoy in Washington, Anatoly I. Antonov, to Moscow “in order to analyze what needs to be done in the context of relations with the United States.”

“We are interested in preventing an irreversible deterioration in relations, if the Americans become aware of the risks associated with this,” the Foreign Ministry’s spokeswoman, Maria V. Zakharova, said in a statement.

Ms. Zakharova did not specify whether a specific event had prompted the decision to recall Mr. Antonov, but the rare move came as Russian officials reacted with fury to an interview with Mr. Biden aired by ABC News. In the interview, when asked whether he thought Mr. Putin was a “killer,” Mr. Biden responded: “Mmm hmm, I do.”

Dmitri S. Peskov, Mr. Putin’s spokesman, described Mr. Biden’s comments as “very bad.”

“He clearly does not want to improve relations with our country, and we will be proceeding based precisely on this,” Mr. Peskov told reporters on Thursday.

Despite Mr. Biden’s long-running criticism of Mr. Putin, some Russian analysts had voiced hope that the Kremlin could forge a productive working relationship with the White House on areas of common interest. While Mr. Biden told ABC that he would continue to look for places “where it’s in our mutual interest to work together” with Russia, some officials in Moscow responded by dismissing the possibility of any cooperation.

Russia has a permanent UN Security Council veto and an enormous nuclear arsenal. What do you think the UN is supposed to do?

The UN won’t do anything against Russia.
Or the US or China. Or the UK.

They have veto-rights.
Don’t ask me why. But they do.

That’s the reason Israel gets away with blue murder as well. The US vetoes any UN attempt to nudge them towards better behaviour.
That’s the reason Pol Pot retained his UN seat. The US vetoed his removal.
It’s the reason Cambodians starved in their millions. The US and UK vetoed the UN’s call for aid.

Etc.

And France. These five nations are considered the winning alliance of WW2 and representatives of the rest of the world due to their spheres of influence (including French and British empires).

I can forgive the French though. Cote d’Azure, Munster cheese and escargots.

Sometimes one must prioritise.
