Russia threatened a nuclear strike against Poland after a landmark deal to site American global anti-missile shields in the country.

Only 24 hours after the weapons agreement was signed Russia's deputy chief of staff warned Poland "is exposing itself to a strike 100 per cent".

General Anatoly Nogovitsyn said that any new US assets in Europe could come under Russian nuclear attack with his forces targeting "the allies of countries having nuclear weapons".

He told Russia's Interfax news agency: "By hosting these, Poland is making itself a target. This is 100 per cent certain. It becomes a target for attack. Such targets are destroyed as a first priority."

These Russians are seriously stretching their muscles. It seems Medvedev and Putin are more and more playing the nationalist card in their foreign policy. Nothing to be happy about, I'm afraid. ... and noticing the threats they made against Georgia in April regarding militairy action, I would advise the Polish government to take the above statements very seriously.

The US just needs to move all of its military forces from Germany and place them in Poland. The German people don't want us there anyhow.

We can be in a country that wants our presence and Poland can reep the economic benefits of having US bases.

You people are crazy; what do you think the US response would be if Mexico allowed the Russians to put up missile interceptors on the Rio Grande? Or if by invitation of Mexico then moved several hundred thousand Russian troops to the Texas border?

The US attempting to put missiles that could potentially shoot down the Russian nuclear deterrent on the Russian border is a recklessly, provocative act. Poland would be well-advised not to play the US' stooge in this game.

If the US had done to Mexico what the Soviets did to Poland and the rest of Eastern Europe, then I'd see the connection. Russia does not have the right to treat its neighbors like crap. They are not Russia's to do with as Russia sees fit.

Poland is its own nation. If Poland wants US protection from the Russian Bear, then I say we give it to them.

Maybe Poland will take the risk looking at what the Russians did to them during the last couple of centuries.

Evidently it is you who is ignorant. Anyone who would claim that the US has mistreated Mexico nearly has badly as Russia has abused Poland is living in a dream land. Any discussion with such a person is impossible due to the screwed up view of reality.
